Been in the same job for 20 years and now thinking of taking a break from the industry and doing something a little simpler for 6 months as I feel it may do me good.
I'm looking at applying to become a meter reader for one of the big energy firms. Obviously the money is kak but that is not really an issue right now for me. Anyone ever done a job like this before?

Happy

*and yes I know I have the right username for it Laugh

Money is ok for an unskilled job, watch out as they expect you to work to 8pm on weekdays and saturdays.

Also with smart meters it isnt the best job with a future Plain

Probably just as easy to become a meter operative, ie changing meters, you dont need any skills as they will train you.

Totally agree with ib's last post. Was about to say same. Energy companies are trying their hardest to get rid of the job.

I'd have thought he'd want to be a Yard Reader anyway.

I seriously don't understand watt you are on about!

I met a retired accountant who was bored so, whilst he could continue scaled down accountancy, he wanted something different.

He got a job as a postie and loved the early start/early finish, and the exercise, and said he felt so much better, after years in a sedentary roll!

He didn't need the money, per se, but it funded lavish holidays, several times a year!

I remember that there used to be quite a few posties on here, so maybe one could pop up and give advice....

I'm thinking that, with a meter reader job, you would have the opportunity to do it at times to suit yourself, as long as you got through the schedule....

Best wait for the 2nd generation of them though. Believe the early ones made switching providers difficult.
