It's the last day of summer when I can justify wearing a jumper to go out. I don't even look forward to Christmas as much as I look forward to that day.

I don't really like Christmas tbh, no racing and its the most pointless day in the calender once the presents have been opened
Its always a case of roll on Cheltenham once Kempton is done on the 26th

I was wearing a jacket some days in August and heating was on that month for a few days ...so summer stops and starts ... the strength of the sun diminishes during August too
Summer - somewhere over a few weeks between April and October in the SE ,almost non existent in N Ire and Scotland Spring - March,April,May,June Winter - Nov,Dec,Jan,Feb Autumn - August,September,October
not sure where to put July
once you get above 44N in Europe you deffo get more of winter than you do of summer .

the north sea is the curse ,even down this far ..esp in the spring months when the sea is an effin ice bucket ...cold winds like you say, even when it's a warm temp . I have to put up a windbreaker in the garden during those months to lay outside .
Durham is a lovely old city

Actually though it was a cracking summer Donny , if it gets above 20 Im happy ,Lived down south Nothing like a 30 Degree day in London followed by a 20 plus night the word uncomfortable does not come near describing it , as For the Tube ,it would be Illegal to transport cattle in Such Conditions .

My parents go on Monday
Might be they always wait until school is back before going, no kids in the hotel etc

In England, I'd say last day of Summer is Sept 30th, or thereabouts.
In Scotland, its whenever our very brief sunny spell ends (and that can be as early as May )

We can't complain about this summer. August wasn't so good but that early stretch will live long in the memory. In fact I woke up yesterday thinking about one glorioius day I had out in the countryside.
Ahh memories. It was all fields back then.

THE LAST HORSE (It is said that Winter comes in on the tail of the last St. Leger Horse.) AUTUMN'S clipped her golden tresses, And the Paddock's gay with dresses Frills and lace and furbelows. Never mind if Summer's dying, You have backed a horse that's trying Tipped you by a man who knows I Certain to be placed —a stayer. Bright September seems the gayer, Genial and debonair. Ribbons, petals, swirling laces Lightly flutter, and the faces Surely never were so fair. Doncaster's the best of courses, Now they're off—a blur of horses I But they've left him at the post ; And your Winner-Tryer-Sprinter Turns to welcome in the Winter— Turns, a cheery jocund host I There's no profit in abuses, But your luck the very deuce is ; He's to carry double weight. Perched behind the boy, who rides him, Now an icy form bestrides him, As he swerves into the Straight. Little wander that he tarries, Crippled by the load he carries ; Yet you half believe it true— That a shadow, nodding greeting From a horse this Autumn Meeting Promises good luck to you.

Metorlogicalists say 1st sept ,Astronomists say Automnial Equinox and any good weather after that is an anomaly called Indian summmer ,global warming ect ect .Brilliant time of year imo and once the chlorophyll is turned down and the carotenoids and Anthocyanin's appear and the sunsets go orange and red to further enhance nature’s colour show you know it’s Hat Time .Already had the long johns on and soon they won’t be off till spring .North Sea is not that cold a sea imo ,very shallow in fact and just because the cold wind from the east blows over it does not mean it’s the sea that’s causing the chill.Would be interesting to look at temps in the east on other side of North Sea ,sea probably warmed them last winter imo .
