Not a bad analogy and easily understood by the uneducated majority.
Report Foinavon September 9, 2018 11:15 AM BST
Agreed, saddo. It wasn't an "outburst" it was a carefully crafted analogy.

If he gets into number 10 the eu will wet their pants because he means what he says and he'll do it.
Report Torquemada September 9, 2018 1:59 PM BST
If Boris, Jacob Rees Mogg or David Davis became PM in the near future the EU would immediately retract many of its demands. That is the behaviour of bullies the world over, whenever anyone with backbone stands up to them they will fold like a cheap suit.

Theresa May is a disastrous PM for the UK, she is simply to weak and, of course, is a remainer at heart. The UK needs a Boris or a Rees Mogg at the helm right now.

Sky News in full scaremongering mode. They just claimed that after a NO DEAL Brexit the UK police might not be able to arrest EU nationals. What a load of BS. The exact opposite would be true. British police would be able to arrest ANY criminal regardless of nationality, UK laws would take precedence at last.
Report conditor September 9, 2018 2:19 PM BST

Report Just Checking September 9, 2018 2:23 PM BST
Sis sky news reallly say that? Does this mean the US won't be able to arrest Brits committing crimes there unless we've an agreement with them to allow it, or we can commit crimes on the continent with impunity as it would be reciprocal surely? I don't think so.....

eric - he means what he says???

Like the way he switched his view on brexit because it was better for his career?

Like the way he said he'd lie down in front of the Heathrow bulldozers, but couldn't even be arsed turning up to vote against the bill?

He was a terrible minister in the worst government in living memory. Every job interview should include a question of the candidates' opinion of him just to weed out the hopelessly incompetents.

Torq - for clarity, can you confirm which nationalities the UK police are unable to arrest?

muslamic nationalities
Report Torquemada September 9, 2018 4:32 PM BST
None as far as I know, PP, that's why I called it BS scaremongering. AFAIK the UK police can arrest whoever the hell they like (except some diplomats perhaps) before, during and after Brexit, deal or no deal.

Just repeating what the Sky News scaremonger reported - namely that the police have warned a NO DEAL scenario would adversely affect their powers to arrest non UK citizens. Obvious BS.

Boris will never play the Dane.

I feel sorry for him this evening because he must have realised that he has spunked his last chance.
Report saddo September 9, 2018 4:58 PM BST
I'm hoping he or Reece Moggy get the job and prompt an exodus from all the remoaning wets who want us to do badly, simply to prove how clever they were.
Report Torquemada September 9, 2018 4:59 PM BST
I wouldn't be so sure. A week is a long time in politics, anything can still happen. The suicide vest analogy resonates with a lot of people. The EU referendum result should have taught a lot an important lesson in listening to the quiet majority - sadly many seem to still be in denial.

Boris missed his cue after the ref 2016 - I don't know why but my guess is that Murdoch told him he would not back him.
I note that May Govt black ops info about Johnson's marital status went straight to the front page of The Sun on Friday.
Boris is toast.
He will never be leader.
Report Torquemada September 9, 2018 5:31 PM BST
I doubt we have heard the last of Boris. I reckon he will probably be a kingmaker - topple May in a leadership contest but see the crown go to somebody else. He'll definitely be back in the cabinet at some point IMO.
Report Torquemada September 9, 2018 5:32 PM BST
BTW did you notice how many on here said Trump would never be leader?

Neither does Boris threaten our safety by talk of getting rid of our nuclear capability or dramatically cutting our defence budget.

Report David Fishwick Minibus Sales September 10, 2018 12:37 AM BST
Fact Check - "Neither does Boris threaten our safety by talk of getting rid of our nuclear capability or dramatically cutting our defence budget."

From Labour's GE Manifesto:

We will ensure that our armed forces are properly equipped and resourced to respond to wide-ranging security challenges. Labour will commit to effective UN peacekeeping, including support for a UN Emergency Peace Service.

The last Labour government consistently spent above the NATO benchmark of 2 per cent of GDP. Conservative spending cuts have put Britain’s security at risk, shrinking the army to its smallest size since the Napoleonic wars. The scrapping of Nimrod, HMS Ark Royal and the Harrier jump-jets have weakened our defences and cost British taxpayers millions.

Labour’s commitment to spending at least 2 per cent of GDP on defence will guarantee that our Armed Forces have the necessary capabilities to fulfil the full range of obligations, and ensure our conventional forces are versatile and able to deploy in a range of roles.

Labour supports the renewal of the Trident nuclear deterrent. As a nuclear-armed power, our country has a responsibility to fulfil our obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Labour will lead multilateral efforts with international partners and the UN to create a nuclear-free world.

Conclusion: bulllshit
Report akabula September 10, 2018 12:43 AM BST
That ignores all the contradictory statement from Corbyn.
Publicly Labour will say anything to get elected.
Although in fairness Jeremy has always dodged the question of pushing the nuclear button
Privately they say the opposite.
