Really! Christ that list makes Evans almost bearable

I can't recall ever listening to a programme he presented.

I've seen him on the telly though, he seems like a typical run-of-the-mill overpaid BBC gobshrite.

Seems to have had a 1st Class ticket on the gravy train for quite some time.

Chris Evans gets 9 million listeners which is more than Wogan ever got, and he is treated like a broadcasting god.

Evans is moving to Virgin so presumably Branson has offered him even more than the £2 million he gets from the licence payer.

And no, I'm not a fan either but he must be doing something right.

Or Ramruma, the  people who employ him are doing something wrong.

Do funded radio stations need DJ's. Can't they just play music with a bit of news. Surely just playing music is cheaper.

Just playing music is cheaper but people want chat or they'd listen to Spotify.

@Dr Crippen -- first reply went wrong.

Radio stations get detailed listener figures. If Evans gets more listeners than breakfast shows on Radio 1, Heart and Capital, he is worth it. If not, he's not. But probably the real sign is whether listenership goes up or down when he is on holiday.

Virgin have looked at the ratings and offered him a big sack of cash. If Evans can deliver more listeners to Virgin then Virgin can charge more money for advertising. Simples. And brutal. And takes no account of artistic merit.

The breakfast show on BBC as always attracted a large following and the BBC doesn't have to attract advertising revenue.

We'll have to see how he gets on at Virgin without a ready made audience of millions.

Evans was helped by the BBC of course BUT he got more listeners than Wogan did, and overtook Radio 1.

Maybe they could have some kind of competition to find his replacement...and then give the job to some inexperienced American soap star.

Like Dr Crippen, I've never listened to him but certainly contributed to his overblown fees through the license duty.

Couldn't they have done it on the kitchen table like most people?

Will be interesting to see how this pans out, according to the haters his show on Virgin wont be successful. We shall see.
