Watched this last night with the in-laws. Hardly heard of him before to be honest. About as funny as toothache as an entertainer to me but he seemed a decent chap off camera, never forgot his roots and treated ordinary folks well.

What made me laugh though was that the mother-in-law didn't realise he was gay when watching Grayson in the 1970s. Unbelievable, the man was as camp as a row of tents! LaughLaughLaugh

Was funny the first time I saw him but his whole act was "Shut that door" followed by a camp look.
Soon stopped being funny. Similar to the 'Are you being served' character that used to shout "I'm free".

The Generation Game[edit]
Grayson's popularity peaked when he was hired by the BBC to present the Saturday night show The Generation Game in 1978, as replacement for Bruce Forsyth. The show became hugely successful, attracting audiences of up to 25 million each week. Grayson was assisted by his co-star Isla St Clair, whom he frequently referred to as "my lovely Isla".

Despite its huge popularity, by 1981 The Generation Game was being overtaken in the ratings by ITV's rival show Game for a Laugh. Grayson decided to leave The Generation Game in 1982 while it was still relatively successful, in the expectation that the BBC would offer him another high-profile Saturday night show; this did not materialise.

It's a strange one isn't it, apparently the US navy didn't even realise the Village People were ghey and wanted "in the navy" as a campaign song!
At the time it came out Top Gun wasn't considered ghey but now it's one of the gheyest films ever made. (Beach volleyball scene anyone).

Everyone's gaydar obviously got a huge upgrade with the invention of the internet.

Back in the 70's (and earlier), it was much less socially acceptable to be gay. Most gay celebrities had to pretend to be straight or it could end their careers. Because of this lack of openness, it was difficult for the wider population to recognise gayness, which in many cases is obvious today. And so they could hide in plain sight with relative ease.

Who's the totally unfunny, gay black bloke (so-called) comedian, i think he's name is Steven !!.
Its only a matter of time before he gets his own prime time sat night show, he fits all their criterias

Dambuster, you're thinking about Stephen K Amos, he's already had a BBC 2 series which got panned by the chit chatters.
