Blackberries should just about be ripe on the bushes around now.
I've been picking them for over two weeks and they're going over. Falling from the branches.

Yeh remind me of a young Buster Gonad

Are his berries dropping too?

Ah the good old days of finding that unbeatable conker for school lol

The days where finding a new of laces because they'd been nabbed for the conkers was a pain in the backside

They literally have banned conkering at my old primary school because kids were hurting their fingers

That goes onto the list of banned basketballs, footballs and even tennis balls as well, because kids are at danger of "being hit by them"

Really does sum up our society right now

Health and safety old thing. Health and safety.

Because everyone is so keen to sue everyone for everything in the name of greedy compensation in this litigious age, health and safety has gone mad, it's a direct result. It's pure greed that's done it, simple as that IMO.

Kids today!  Had spikes on the railings at my school, they had to lift a girl off who slipped and one went up under her chin, nobody complained.

Right in front of me is an enormous conker tree but nothing fallen yet!

Last year I collected half of a Tesco carrier bag, for my grandson and his school buddies.

I'll have to ask him, but he hasn't said anything about them being banned at school!

Almost ripping your fingers off is character building, together with being made to play rugby on a frozen solid pitch, and none of this
protective padding on the posts, as even though a couple of kids broke their collar bones, and one kid was knocked out, and swallowed his tongue,
which must have been very harrowing for those who were there.

Despite all of that, it's astonishing that nobody thought of doing anything about it!

Nowadays, unless you put a sign up saying 'please do not climb on the railings with the big spikes as they could cause serious injury even death' you are F00cked! You have to state the bleeding obvious as if you don't, you will get done. At the swimming pool 'Do not breathe under water', that type of thing and at the ice rink 'Caution! slippery surface'

They'd banned all the ball games when I was there though which was 1998 I think, conkers were banned in 2012,

It was a parent complaining about her lads swollen fingers that got them banned as well

Kids go over the top its that simple, it takes that sort of thing for them to wise up

And yes, I'm only jossing LaFa. My kid brother broke his collar bone twice before they sidelined him.

Was talking to an American friend, and mentioned conkers, and he said he never heard of them!

I never thought it was anything but universal though, apparently, it's a UK and Irish tradition....
