Tessa Dunlop's performance was so embarrassing because she is employed by the BBC and C4 (plus several newspapers) as an expert historian. Wikipedia reports that she studied at Oxford.
Everyone watching the programme with me knew the answer was Mata Hari, none of whom have any sort of history qualifications whatsoever. It did make me laugh when Dunlop turned to Kevin Ashman to enquire if he knew the answer. Being a gentlemen he was too polite to say "of course I do you dozy cow" but you could tell it was on his mind. |
