Hi Richie, I've been 14 times over the years and stayed in the mgm in May, fantastic hotel, but the buffet ain't upto much. It's a massive hotel so hope your room is in the tower block which is close to reception the gaming floor.
You ain't going to win a million, but I play roulette, 2/1 only and found the best time to win was mid afternoon when the floor is quieter and I'm still suspicious about the tables being ****. In the evening, my best results were when on same table as a couple of screaming women whom miraculously seemed to win quite regular. I just stuck to small stakes but played 2/1 on the section they were putting their chips..try it, you may be surprised, though only play in 15/20 minute bursts then walk away.
Shows and food places are 10 a penny and quite reasonable, though you're looking at 7 dollars plus for a bottle of beer. There's an Aussie steak house about 200 yards from mgm on the same side which is fantastic..liveliest bar we came across was coyote ugly in New York New York, bellagio is great for the fountain shows and upmarket stores, Gucci etc. Fremont street is very lively, though a bit ropey, about 40 dollars in a taxi.plenty of hotels have roller coasters or thrill rides and all hotels have sports book for normal betting plus they show English football if you're up early enough.
Just a couple of downsides other than the place being full of yanks. Expect to be hanging around McCarron airport for about 2 hours, the walk and the wait to get through customs are a ball ache and the service at the mgm check in is not exactly the fastest.
Have a great time but please do not wear a baseball cap, you'll look a t1t, but if you must then don't wear it back to front, you'll look like an American and a tw@t.

Gallaghers In New York New York or Delmonico in Venetian for steaks, both superb, Grande Cafe Du Lux, Venetian, best burger I have had, Hyde Bar in Bellagio, overlooks the fountains, Skyfall Bar In Delano, superb views right down the strip, Cosmoploitan buffet, different class, Freemont St, go in daytime, street entertainers are so poor you will not stop laughing, lot cheaper for gambling down there, shopping outlet near there as well, if you are interested, if you want to see any shows, go direct to box office at the hotel and barter, they knocked 50 Dollars off each ticket, also there are loads of booths on the strip for Grand Canyon tour or strip helicopter tour, cocktail girls offer drinks in all hotels when you are punting, I always give them 5 Dollars tip first time, they look after you then, you will soon sus it out, then 1 Dollar per drink after, Big Elvis, think in Harrahs, a great afternoon, he is superb, enjoy yourself, best place on Earth

I lived in Vegas in the late 80s there used to be locals casinos. Ask where the locals go should be better offers but from what I understand Vegas now makes it's money from tourism as most states now have casinos on Indian reservations. I'll have to go back myself doubt I'll recognise the place

Head to the Valley Of Fire state park a short drive from Vegas, for sunrise ideally. Spell-binding red rocks that shine spectacularly at sunrise/sunset. This is where Tony Soprano watched the sunrise after taking peyote in one of the Sopranos episodes. Wouldn't necessarily recommend taking peyote but might add to the experience
Mandalay Bay is a nice hotel to stay at, beyond the Luxor. TheHotel within Mandalay Bay even better. Some superb eateries in Mandalay Bay. Outstanding steaks at the Stripsteak there. Lovely pool there too with a wave machine & Lazy River.
North Rim of Grand Canyon for the road less travelled. Views just as mind-blowing & you'll have lots of the look out points to yourself. Enjoy

I was hoping the UFC would be in town during the week but doesn't look like it's going to happen. A fortnight later and it would have been madness with Khabib vs Conor.
We're taking around 3k with us and we also get paid whilst out there so always emergency fund. I suppose your only 40 once !!
Twonky,
Hope all is well... you going to Wembley this weekend to watch your mob get beat ?

I wouldn't fancy being there early-mid September, it's going to be extremely hot and desert heat is not like any other heat you get in Europe. I've been a few times and have always been quite lucky and had a good experience, have fun.

m.m. You will be looking at about 35-37C during the day and at midnight it will still be 28-30C. It's a very burning and scorching heat and it's quite exhausting if you want to be out and about away from the air conditioning of the hotels at any given time. Bring absolute sunblock and factor 50 and use them all the time and wear a hat if you are walking around and drink loads of water.

I was up your neck of the woods for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago, MM, and have to say it was stunning. Holy Island and Bamburgh are beautiful in the sunshine, regretted not packing a fishing rod but was with the wife and kids so probably wouldn't have had time anyway.

got flights from newcastle to vegas 1.2k ( doesn't include seat booking etc ), got to remember too with hotels in vegas price is given then have resort tax on top too. car hire is problem as not returning to vegas where pick up , and drop it off in denver , by doing that adds a canny bit on. 700 quid for just over 2 weeks -return to vegas be about 400). accommodation averages out about 140/night. got to sort spending money out, be about 2-3k .

I have stayed at treasure island, the other end of The Strip to MGM. Went for a Oscar De La Hoya fight. Fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended to go during a fight weekend.
I went with two other degenerate gamblers. I played 21 and they played roulette. We would meet at " The ****s Bar " roughly in the middle of roulette and blackjack, every few hours for a drink. We so named it The ****s Bar as that is where so many of them hung out.
So I was playing Blackjack and said to the croupier how enlightened it was that the Casino allowed all these ****s in to service their clients stating such a thing was not allowed in London and she laughed telling me that so many of them came for fight weekends that it was just about impossible to keep them all out!
Anyway I would have liked to have taken a Helicopter to the Grand Canyon, maybe seen The Hoover Dam, Aeroplane graveyard and had a good old shoot up with a variety of guns and rifles. Maybe next time. We didn't visit one Titty Bar, Nightclub or even Cocktail bar. Proper Gambling and Boxing degeneracy!
If you got money the food is supposed to be good at Marquee Hotels but I genuinely think London is better. Better spend the money on a couple of shows if you are with the missus and the odd trip out. You will then have a tale to tell.

The one show everyone who visits Vegas should see is any one of the 10 DIFFERENT shows on in ten DIFFERENT casinos, by Cirque du Soleil. (And, before you say `I don`t like the circus`, it`s NOT a circus! Very hard to describe, nothing similar to compare it to, but it`s an all-encompassing visual and aural experience) You don`t get to have so many shows on in so many places for so long in the capital of World Entertainment without being the best. And they are. Doesn`t really matter which you see, but there`s one based on Michael Jackson, and another on The Beatles, if either of those are your thing. The pm;y one to avoid, perhaps, is `O`, set in water, which doesn`t display their skills as well as the ones on a stage.
Perhaps heretical, but I found the helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam somewhat underwhelming...

Eight of us went around 15 years back for a GG holiday that's golf & gambling, of course we took in a couple of shows one was Cirque du Soleil, a lot of the acts took place on ropes in the air & looking up for some time sort of sends you into a trance & I felt myself struggling to keep my eyes open, sometimne later I suddenly awoke startled that I had fallen asleep, I was not alone I looked along the line of the other seven blokes & they were all fast asleep, I can certainly state that a Cirque du Soleil show is probably the best show I have ever slept through

You have to dress in a hospital gown as you arrive with the waitresses dressed as nurses. Even the smallest burger is massive.......If you don’t finish your meal you will be punished by your nurse! You have the choice of singing karaoke or getting spanked in front of the whole restaurant. You can also get a photo or video of this ! Fun place, great for the entertainment.
Love Vegas (not everyone's idea of a great holiday, but absolutely love the lunatic place). Going again early next year. MGM is down the south end of the strip near the airport, always stayed at Treasure Island further up the strip, mid-price hotel and great location.

If you fancy an adrenalin rush away from the tables give The Stratosphere rides a whirl. Best have a few beers beforehand though for some Dutch courage as they are fairly terrifying!

Jack, I did all of them. You have to pay at the reception at ground level and many people who went up in the lift with us who paid for all the rides saw what was involved at the top and thought sod that, count me out! I had 3 large JD and cokes beforehand it has to be said.

Yes, Slippy, some bottled out when I did it. I went about 15 years ago and they had The Big Shot and another ride that went round the top I think,, but that one ride where you are left dangling over edge....
