anyway,i guess times have changed,i like most people had two granny''s.sadly both have passed away ,but i will never forget the apple pies and cakes baked by my two granny's. they were the best. Its amazing how the granny's are so good at baking.i bet there is not one guy on this forum that can not remember their granny's baking. in fact i think in general granny's get raw deal in society these days. They have become sort off built in baby sitters and get no thanks. They are taken for granted. in fact i think it unfair that there is no GRANNY DAY.we have a MOTHERS DAY,A FATHER'S DAY ,there is no official Granny's day.The poor Granny's have squeeze into Mothers day just like they have to squeeze into the back seat of the car if the family are going on a day trip.remember none of you guys would have never been born had it not been for the Granny's. so i think anyone reading this thread should visit their Granny in the next week and buy her a present and tell her you love her,and thank her for all she done for you. If like me your Granny has passed over, you can always lay some flowers on her grave to thank her. And finally its my opinion that an official Granny day be declared by society.

I never met my granny or granddad on both my father and mother`s side of the family due to the two World Wars. So if you are lucky and your grand parents are still alive, treasure them and enjoy every day you have with them and listen to their words of wisdom.

My Nan, (Dad's side) had an orchard with lots of apple and pear trees amongst other fruit growing, rhubarb, blackberries, raspberries and so on. Her apple pies were the stuff of legends.

The unromantic truth is that we like food we ate as a child. On any objective scale, your granny would not have got through the Bake-off auditions but for you, her pies became the standard by which you judge.
Mind you, grandad had been a chef (well, a cook really) in the army so the women never got near the kitchen, with the result my mum never learned to boil an egg.

One of my nan's was great at doing home baked bread rolls. The other used to do a selection of puddings when we went for Sunday lunch. I spent a fair bit of time with my grand parents, as my parents used to leave us with them some weekends. We even went on holidays with one of our grand parents as kids & they took us all over Ireland. We'd travel on the train with some second cousins (5 girls) and the done thing out there back then, was to say dad's back there, as we went though the barrier for some, err cheap travel. Our other grand parents would have the whole family at their house most Saturdays, 5 families, with 8 or so kids.
