Police seem to raid houses each time in such circumstances. Often people are ' arrested ' and then released without charge with no further comment or explanation from police.

No idea what the true story is, but one thing is for certain, this was not a planned attack on those cyclists and at that time. a ford fiesta and apparently no other weapons is very odd and it appears likely he was spooked in some way by the sound of the siren. The other vehicle following also needs explaining. It's possible he was on some sort of scouting expedition and at some point planned an attack if he was driving around for a considerable period as has been reported, but something is not right about events and needs explaining.

The authorities should publish statistics on how many white,black,brown etc people there are in this country and the percentage of each category that have criminal records. They should then drill down and publish the same stats for men and women in those categories and age band categories etc etc.

It is only one isolated incident.  It diverts away what else is going on. It is perverse how this gets swung.  More people get upset and some papers play on it - meanwhile Tv news won't even mention the M word or the I word as though the whole thing is working in isolation from the peaceful ones  WHO MUST NOT BE MENTIONED because they might take a fence.
It gives the authorities reason to increase surveilance of ALL citizens and actually helps to clamp down on people who are actually concerned and want to ask questions but are too scared to do so because of their job/position etc etc.

Because arresting him under the terrorism legislation gives the police/security services massively different powers than a normal arrest.
