Driving theory tests are nothing more than a memory test....which is mind boggling considering they where going to give blue badges to people with dementia.

Never did one of these so can't advise really apart to tell the lad to remain calm, take deep breaths and to imagine he is by himself in the driver's seat and on the road when he answers the questions.  Many of the Q's will be basic comkmon sense, Shirls?

How ridiculous to deny someone a driving license on the evidence of a written test.
Jumping through hoops for the sake of it.

How many experienced and extremely safe drivers would pass a written test?

Hey Dragon....not taking the p!$$ but had to laugh at 'dyslecsic'....Laugh

I've been driving since the beginning of time, but wouldn't have a clue, without some serious revision!

I wonder how Formula 1 and Rally drivers would fare!

That's correct TL...

He must be seriously stressed out Dragon, and more so each time!

Is the test always the same, or do they mix it up, to make it more difficult?

never the same always varied , in two parts multiple choice and hazards. its the multiple choice he keeps missing every time . hits the other one no problem.it ridicoulous to fail someone continually by 1 or 2 points . the passs grae should be a range as in nornmal tests . feel soooooooooo sorry for him , soooooooooooo frustrating

Just took the practice test and got 44 out of 50.

Some of the questions are a bit ambiguos (as in it depends)!

I was expecting more on things like braking distances and signs etc.....

Anyway it was a pass, but I wonder what would have been a fail!

There are several of these practice tests to play with.

I did one earlier but when I got to the end (there was no indication, and countdown of questions to go)
I was taken to another page and didn't get results!

It might be a good idea to get him to play with these as, even if they are not entirely typical, it might boost his confidence,
and make him familiar with different questions!

I think that many of them could only be accurately answered by those with much driving experience!

there is a theory test DVD kit you can get from the DVSA, which will let him practice all the possible questions, do mock tests etc.

As has been said, for the test itself, you can choose to have the questions read out, there are headphones attached to the PCs at the centre. the dvd has audio as well. it will let him see at home which questions he's getting wrong and explain the answers. worth the investment imo, a quick google looks like less than £15 on ebay or £18 on amazon
