Guilty of manslaughter of a child but allowed to work with children again. Do they make the rules up as they go?

They were discussing this on the radio this morning.

The case against her seemed overwhelming, yet here she is free to do it all again.

I think if I were in hospital and she turned up to treat me I'd discharge myself.

They keep importing people to do important jobs, we should be ashamed of not training our own doctors.

We should be ashamed that we have a communist medical union and a craven government that means we are not training enough of our own doctors.

Delegates at the annual BMA conference voted by a narrow majority to restrict the number of places at medical schools to avoid “overproduction of doctors with limited career opportunities.” They also agreed on a complete ban on opening new medical schools.

David Sochart, from Manchester and Salford, warned that in the current job climate allowing too many new doctors into the market would risk devaluing the profession

Thanks bongo, I would not believe it had I not read it.

My elder daughter is a middle ranking Registrar, destined to become a Consultant, without doubt.

Last week,at 7 months pregnant, she was required to work 70 hours.Anyone on here fancy that sort of shift under these conditions?

Don't blame the accused.Lack of nurses,over-worked,no Consultant for advice.Disgraceful that she was struck -off in the first place.

2008, job protection by the BMA. Ten years later with an extra 3 million people we are dragging doctors in from the back of beyond.

I'm glad saddo has exposed the BMA on here for what they are.

They deliberately work to limit the number of doctors available in order to put upwards pressure on wages. They've always done it. They're only interested in themselves and their money.

As Enoch Powell said when he was Health minister. ''Speak to the BMA about hospital conditions, proceedures or anything else and you always end up talking wages.''

Credit to bongo. Now we are currently paying foreigners a huge amount of money which could have gone to homegrown talent, but never mind, they've kept their wages up.

Just finished watching Panorama, given the large number of cases of Sepsis that don't get diagnosed I feel given all the other contributing factors I don't think she should of been charged let struck off. If any one is at fault it's the hospital in general. While I feel desperately sorry for the parents, no parents should ever have to bury their children. I feel they were looking for someone to blame. The poor little lad had numerous health issues. May he rest in peace

They said she was doing the work of several doctors. We don't have enough doctors because the BMA didn't want any more. It's a disgrace that the tail is allowed to wag the dog in these matters.

Not only was she doing the work of several doctors, two out of the three nurses on that shift were agency nurses. The hospitals IT system went down so this doctor was unable to review The blood test results. The consultant had double booked himself and when he finally did turn up didn't examine the poor lad. Once on a ward the mother said the lad was due his normal medication. The nurse asked for advice and told the mother as it had not been prescribed by the Doctor in question she was unable to give the drug, but said as your the mother you can. It turned out this was one of the worst drugs to give the child in his condition. As I say imo the hospital is accountable but as is often the case the lowest denominator is hung out to dry.

They were at it again in 2012.

BMA accepts cut in student numbers to reduce unemployment
Recommendations to reduce the number of medical students could help alleviate the risk of unemployment among newly qualified doctors, the BMA has agreed.

  But in 2017.......

News
Government must create foundation training places for 1500 new medical students, says BMA.

Surely a disparate bunch of school kids could have produced forward planning no worse than this. Were they not aware of the population boom in 2012?
