Anyone taking medication for neuropathic pain?

I've been on Gabapentin (Neurontin) for almost six years now following head & neck surgery, which help a great deal.

i had my spinal cord severed and put back together as a result of a tumour back in 2005 and I have been on a range of medications since. I was on Amytriptyline but although not a bad drug there is a lot of side effects.

I have been on Gabapentin and Lyrica since my surgery and tablet wise for nerve pain Gabapentin is the best you are going to get before you go down the morphine patches route. There is also a procedure called "Ganglion blocks which can be helpful for some people.

I am on gabapentin after having my lung removed 5 years ago,it does not suit everyone but is worth a try,good luck I hope you find something that suits your needs.

Trouble with gabapentin is it takes ages to work and you get an unpleasant drowsiness/waking - you feel a bit disorientated, as if you were beaten unconscious.

I've been taking Amytriptyline (max dose of 3x25mg at night} for Peripheral Neuropathy over eight years...

My feet are effectively dead, and very uncomfortable (particularly when walking) and, if I trip, it usually results in falling as
I can't balance to recover!

I'm not sure how much they help now, and I took to using a stick last year, just to help with confidence, when stepping up or off kerbs etc.

What they certainly do is knock me out, and also keep my head straight, as they are also prescribed for depresion.
