1, O'Brien(LBC..10am)Total turn off these days.Has undoubtedly got worse since we voted to leave.Any caller who disagrees is talked over and ridiculed.

2,Chris Evans (Radio2 6.30 am)..Just LOVES himself and comes across as Charlie big potatoes.Tired old format.Like groundhog day each and every morning.Never lets a tune play to the end because he loves the sound of his own voice.

3,Nick Abbot (LBC Weekends  10pm)...The man is Trump obsessed.Always manages to rubbish the POUS within the first few minutes of his show.Anyone who supports Brexit is given short shrift.

1 Chris Evans ... the shouty man. I hate everything about him. Annoying when we b&b somewhere they have him on whilst you’re having breakfast. Just play the records and shut the f up. Paid a fortune (as they all are), I would pay never to hear him again.
2 O’Brien .... give it a rest man. I remember seeing him on Christmas University challenge a while back and he really is not as smart as he makes out. Also a mouth breather. A good face for radio as they say.
3 Vine. He’s a bit simple or perhaps he thinks we are simple and of course shockingly overpaid.

Radcliffe and Maconie have been binned off to some unlistenable weekend shift to be replaced by Keaveny (he could be ok), Lauren Laverne going to breakfast (seems completely unsuited to me) and the utterly unlistenable Mary Ann Hobbs now has her own mid-morning show.

General comment about radio, rather than any presenter.
I listen to 5 Live, but someone there,eg a producer, seems to think that regularly playing commentators calling (shouting!) a previous sporting event is exciting or interesting.IT IS NOT! It's irritating, deafening, boring and lazy broadcasting.

To be fair to Steve Allen he keeps going for three hours without anyone to help him.
He doesn't take callers, so most of the tripe he spouts must be off the top of his head.

I remember once, he took to task a shop assistant who had been less than friendly towards him. He gave out the name of the store, the time and date he was served and the position of the till where he was served.
If that isn't trying to get someone the sack then I don't know what is.

Not very nice.

I listen to LBC a lot. James O'Brien does tend to interrupt and can be very rude. Although not rude, in recent weeks Maajid Nawaz seems to be adopting the tactic of interrupting the callers he disagrees with.

That said, I like listening to both of them as they cover intersesting topics.

Ian Payne, for me, is the least knowledgeable.

I find Nick Ferrari extremely irritating. He hosts the 'flagship' show yet is forever stubling over his words, mispronouncing them or mishearing callers.
Report TheBaron August 10, 2018 9:48 AM BST
I used to work at LBC many years ago.  Funnily enough some of the presenters didn't seem to have a very high opinion of their listeners.  I doubt if that's changed much.
Report Dr Crippen August 10, 2018 10:16 AM BST
James O'Brien bragged on the BBC's One Show that you don't have to be right in order to win an argument.

He does this all the time by stopping people from making their points.
Never letting them get much past the first sentence in most cases before he picks them up on something trivial and ruining their flow.

Quite frankly, who wants to listen to that?

It's not a regular call in show, it's more like a ''who's going to dare to come on here and disagree with the mighty James O'Brien show?''
Report Dr Crippen August 10, 2018 10:20 AM BST
Take Farage in comparison.

He lets all who phone in have their say. That's why he gets so many callers with different views to his.

That's how it should be. We then hear both sides to the argument.
Report i_agree_with_nick August 10, 2018 10:33 AM BST
Nigel Farage does treat all his callers with respect.

I think the abuse JOB gives him is a bit childish but this and the way he interacts with callers is all part of the routine. I believe he's done some stand-up so he can probably pull off a 'comedy' act that other presenters wouldn't be capable of even if they wanted to.

Based on his audience figures, he must be doing something right.
Report Dr Crippen August 10, 2018 10:44 AM BST
Based on his audience figures, he must be doing something right.

So what are these audience figures?
Report i_agree_with_nick August 10, 2018 10:53 AM BST
Across the UK, LBC now reaches 2.1 million listeners every week (+3% YoY).

Nick Ferrari at Breakfast now reaches 1.1 million listeners every week for a total of 4 million hours.

James O’Brien now reaches 943,000 (+4% YoY) listeners every week for a total of 3.2 million hours.

Source: RAJAR Q2 2018, all stations and groups results are reported on their specified reporting period and TSA.
Report Dr Crippen August 10, 2018 1:34 PM BST
Thanks for that.

Needless to say I'm not one of his regular listeners.

It's amazing how they compile these figures.
I believe they take a set number of people, then ask them what they listen to over a time period. The results are then extrapolated.

I like to note the amount of advertising space a show takes up, i.e., paying customers.
Nick Ferrari's show is spoiled by the extensive advertising.
I can't comment on James O'Brien and his advertisements because I can't stand listening to his show long enough to make a judgement.
Report i_agree_with_nick August 10, 2018 1:47 PM BST
I always wonder about the accuracy of TV audience numbers and the radio figures are probably less scientific in terms of their compilation.

I think you're correct. A sample of people are asked to maintain a diary of what they have listened to whereas with TV, the sample have ome sort of device connected to their set.

At the end of the day private radio companies are only there to pull in advertising revenue.

The BBC are not saddled with stuff like that. Their presenters have to pursue an agenda set out for them by the BBC.

It's all propaganda of one kind or another from the lot of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if James O'Brien voted Tory. Such is the contempt I have for presenters and their opinions.
