It's not easy to stay friends with people who voted to continue the ruination of this country.

Almost but not quite. My best mate's a Tory MP and whereas I've voted Conservative all my life we have very different opinions on a range of policies, not least Brexit.

I know loads of psycho Little Englanders! Most people treat as they find. I think only in America do people not talk to each other because of politics. In England it is more sport to goad, humiliate and annoy. In America I know of family members who will not talk to each other because of their politics.

I like people with honestly held views. How you treat a fellow human being is how I treat you and obviously how you treat me. Even the xenophobes and Little Englanders treat me well and it is in my nature to be hospitable.

It was never a problem until the campaign began to ignore/overturn the Referendum result.

Until now you used to perhaps discuss or argue politics with your friends, but then you had a vote, and everyone abided by the result and that settled things. That's democracy for you. There was no question of falling out with people over it, and trying to continue the fight on a personal level, because the great thing about one-person/one-vote democracy is that it avoids all that and lets us just get on with things.

But when it turned out that my vote was worthless on account of my being uneducated, insular and racist, all that went out of the window. Politics had suddenly been pulled down to the personal level. The only arguments you could make were personal ones, comparing one another's qualifications, battling it out to demonstrate whose vote was worth more.

Horrible.

lots of my friends and especially their social justice warrior daughters find it so hard to believe i voted for brexit and support some of trumps policies.the main question is how could i support trump over a woman like Hillary i just laugh at them saying Hillary is a loser and when you give them facts about how Hillary treated the women who accused billy boy clinton they have have no answer.they just dumbly look at me and say yeah but she is a woman

I mean, there's no way they'd vote for a party which has never had a woman leader, and showed in its leadership election that it would rather be led by a privately educated communist with 2 'E's in his A-levels than by Yvette Cooper or Liz Kendall.

I would imagine that most of us have friends from different areas of the political spectrum, though ultimately it can be more comfortable to be around like minded people. Some of the more rabid posters on the Trump thread may well be an exception though!
