My sweet peas have been rubbish this year. I have Sir Henry Cecil same as last year and also a packet called Mammoth Mix
My Runner beans looked fantastic with lots of flowers, but they were pretty much all dead sets in the end ![]() |

Hot weather has done for most Sweet Peas this year. Peas (veg) the same. The plants have dried out and gone white as if scorched

I've always wanted to grow sweet peas but I'm no gardener. Imagine them growing up a six foot chain-link fence creating a wall of colour.

Enough of this "sweet Pea" grief....
Look at the state of my baskets.... This year.... ![]() Last year... ![]() |

I started peas out early , and they produced lots of pods . I added a few more each week and the latter ones did not liked the hot dry weather one bit , whereas runner beans have been bountiful.
Grown lots of sweep peas , some have flowered and quickly gone to seed , others don't even have buds yet. |

So disappointing TD....
They were larger, and luxuriously planted, and should have been spectacular! Now a long wait for another season (unlike recovering on the next horse race) and I am almost looking forward to the winter blooms! Having said that, my planters, pots, and "horse feeder" style troughs, are still looking good, Unfortunately two expensive "Box" were on their way out (for some reason) since last season! |

Re Peas.....
Sweet Peas have been hard this year, unless autumn sown. My spring sown ones have struggled though. My recommended varieties are White Supreme, and Robert Uvedale for next year. The eating peas have been equally difficult, and I have sympathy for those that say the frozen ones are as good, but nothing beats shelling fresh peas with granddaughters. No child should reach their teens without having extracted a real pea from a real pod. |
