Sensationalization of TV news before facts, and/or indictment and/or conviction, a total lack of professionalism and responsibility from the BBC; those responsible need to go, and have their salaries docked or sequestrated.
A possible appeal muted by the representatives at the BBC ? I'd advise them...do not even think about it! Swallow your pride, accept that a colossal mistake had been made, save licence payers a shed load of money, learn from it, and move on! |

Who's sorry now.

Decades of hits, this could be a three figure pun thread.

true cooperman , we could still be doing puns in December when the misletoe and wine is out.

So,are tv,press now barred from naming suspects in ongoing investigations?

"A possible appeal muted by the representatives at the BBC ? I'd advise them...do not even think about it !"
Of course not, don't even think about it. The BBC really messed up. Good result, and to consider an appeal is disgusting. |

most celebs in these circumstances give the money to a charity..........but not cliff he is a Christian...........
By:
see john leslie was cleared.........woman accused him of all sorts on the dance floor.......cctv showed nothing happened..........if anything she tried to grope him and he declined............to me that woman should be charged with wasting police time................and where were the police in not obtaining the cctv themselves......
By:
BBC need keep in the shadows and just pay the man.

By:
i think its fair that cliff gets compo for his disgraceful treatment by police and bbc
but the compo he gets is just our money anyway. those that conspired to put him through this hell are the ones that should pay the compo. |
By:
bbc are scum
By:
Charges should be made against the wrongdoers not the tax payer in these cases. Same with Windrush compensation. Same with Rotherham and Telford. The individuals should be held to account.
By:
in the john leslie case without doubt he would have been found guilty if there was no CCTV.........this girl was on her hen night and probably would have been believed.............why isn't she being charged.......how much did that case cost.........a couple of hundred grand
By:
probably cant even be named.........lies through her back teeth but is the one granted all the rights
By:
John Leslie was not cleared, cardiff. The charges against him were not proven, big diference up here
By:
Leslie was not able to provide any evidence which demonstrated his innocence. The verdict was not 'not guilty', but 'not proven'. The Sheriff said the witness' evidence was credible. Leslie's DNA was even found at the lady's waistband.
They've just not had enough evidence to charge him. Jury still out as to whether he's guilty or not |
By:
they had the cctv(3 angles) which showed his side of the story was true.........if the cctv evidence had backed up the girls story then the case would have gone ahead..........
By:
If that were the case he wouldve been found not guilty and not not proven
By:
deserves every penny
By:
He shouldn't get carrie'd away.
By:
james..........the case was dropped because of the CCTV evidence.............what part of that don't you understand
By:
I'd just like to say to Sir Cliff "Congratulations and jubilations"
By:
I'm pleased that someone who was acquitted has finally had the courage to take on his apparently false accusers.
If a few more did this the "witch hunters" might be a tad more circumspect and only proceed if they actually have a case instead of sensationalising things. |
By:
BBC were very pleased with themselves even thinking the story might win an award, the compo doesnt
worry them, they are happy to waste licence payers money. |
By:
Cardiff, what bit of the case was found not proven, he wasn't given a not guilty, do
you not understand? |
By:
'not Proven' usually thought to be "we think you did it but they havnt proved it"
There was a very famous case when Madeline Smith was accused of poisoning her lover, they even made a film about her. |
By:
Amazing how the Beeb turned on their Golden Boy a man who gave free Concerts at Wimbledon on rainy Days ,Very very strange

By:
james..........they have the film of the 2 dancing,,,,,,,,,,,,,she accused him of the offence while dancing.............the film lasts over 3 mins from 3 different angles..........in that film leslie doesn't do anything to the woman...........the film totally clears leslie..............I like you thought he was guilty pre trial but when evidence points clearly to his innocence I am willing to change my mind but you obviously don't think film evidence is good evidence...........I really don't know what to say
By:
I don't know.
On the one hand, maybe the story was worth covering. You can't say it wasn't news, and even if you think people accused of crimes should be anonymous, that's not the law as it stands. On the other hand, why on earth did they not just apologise and save £5 million in legal fees? |
By:
The BBC are utter hypocritical ****s. They spent a fortune on this, helicopters hovering, live rolling coverage etc, when there was no evidence at all and basically ruined the guys life, but he's a white christian. When however sick rape gangs are convicted in the north of england of horrific crimes over years on young girls with a charge sheet as long as your arm, the BBC don't even cover it for one reason only and we all know exactly why that is.
They are now playing the victim in this and the torch holders of truth and press freedom. They make me utterly sick. |
By:
I like to think if Rick from the Young ones hadn't neen killed in a horrific bus crash, he'd have been out the front of the court celebrating today.
Taken too young. Poet of a generation he was. |

Apparently the beeb asked Cliff for an exclusive interview.
"We Don't Talk Anymore" Cliff told them |

Not sure that jamesdean and others here understand what not proven means , especially in cases like this
It doesn’t mean any less innocence but reflects on the nature of the case If you have an accuser and no other evidence either way then it is very difficult to prove that the accuser is lying And in Scotland you may get a verdict of not proven because of this That is the terrible situation that anyone would could find themselves in with such a case |
