I know there's been a prolonged heat wave and I know there's a lot of leakage in water supply pipes,BUT...
There was a picture of a dried up reservoir in a national newspaper last week.It was the usual sort of depiction they trot out at these times:empty,with a cracked,dried earth bottom.
My question is,why don't they take advantage of this and send in diggers to make the reservoir DEEPER? Rant over.

I'm not sure about this, but I seem to remember reservoirs being closed and disused a few years ago.
If that is the case, perhaps an idea might be to start reusing them. |

The cost of doing it for the sake of having a hose pipe ban in a few regions every five or ten years simply is not worth it.

I don't think we have any such problems here in the midlands with Anglian Water. I don't imagine that they are without problems but about thirty years ago all the ageing water-pipes and mains in my town were re-lined so I would think that we're fairly leak-free here. I can't ever recall there being shortages and restrictions on usage here.

Perhaps people should question the private cowboy firms and their executives who 9 of them received 58 milion between them in pay and bonuses over the last 5 years , is this another example if the risk takers we hear so much about ?

Had to laugh the other day, an expert on the radio from a university (never left school,) talking about how we will all have to get ready for long dry summers and cut down on our water usage due to climate change.

All the bans of water, hosepipes, limits to shower time, no baths etc saves about 10% only. I thought it would be more..I reckon most people ignore it.
