Let me make it simple for you , when the Scottish people hold a referendum to leave or to remain as part of the UK
They must be obeyed

When the British people hold a referendum to leave of remain as part of the EU
They must be obeyed

That’s democracy , now I , unlike Clydebank or perhaps yourself I don’t know , don’t want a strong leader overturning that vote

well they certainly agreed to abide by the EU ref but that is not the same as legally having to.
also i never said Holyrood got to decide anything I just said they drew up the proposal. Obviously
it would have been done in consultation with Westminster but not under the same rules as a UK
parliamentary ref.

Clydebank's description is spot on. You have to feel some sympathy for Teresa May. She's being asked to lead the country off a cliff. If she does so, then she'll go down in history as the leader of the dumbest decision ever, if she doesn't she'll have the haters after her blood regardless of how sensible it might be. Quite clearly some sort of compromise is required but the hardliners won't allow it.

Referendums are not legally binding, so legally the Government can ignore the results; for example, even if the result of a pre-legislative referendum were a majority of "No" for a proposed law, Parliament could pass it anyway, because parliament is sovereign.

Well I dont know what the difference is for a referendum but I believe the margin of the Scottish one large enough to have been ratified had it been an election.

The scottish referendum act was Scottish Parliament legislation.  What could it possibly have to do with UK parliament legislation and constitutional precedent?

"Boris Johnson has resigned as Foreign Secretary amid a growing political crisis over the UK's Brexit strategy.

He is second senior cabinet minister to quit within hours following Brexit Secretary David Davis's exit.
