Anyone ever been. Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco etc.

Mulling it over for next month. Wondering if anyone's knows of any resorts to try/avoid, what the beach and sea's like there or anything else.

Just tell me where you decide to go, then I too will know what resorts to avoid.

Myself and the missus spent 3 weeks at an all inclusive resort there, it may have been the Marriott but not certain as it was about 18 years ago.
It was what you'd expect, lovely weather and spotless clean beaches. The resort had several restaurants of various cuisines and was of a very decent standard usually, a spa, massage room and so on and it was fine but nothing overly remarkable and was more workmanlike rather than having a wow factor. The service was OK and nothing more than that, the Mexicans get paid a pittance and we tipped the head concierge, maitre d's of the restaurants that we preferred and of course the head barmen about $30 each after a few days and we got looked after better than most (the Americans do not tip a cent and were bloody rude to the locals). In summary, yes we had a good time, glad we went and palled up with a few Scots and Irish which was a huge bonus as the Americans on the whole were completely obnoxious and can't handle their booze and we didn't really have anything to do with them as a rule. Would I ever go again? Definitely not but go see for yourself. The missus loved the shopping there and bought lots of clothes etc, cheap compared to Europe and of a high quality.
(P.S.I put on 4 kilos in the 3 weeks!)

Puerto Vallarta is proper Mexico unlike all the Cancun resorts which are purpose built.
Its cheaper than the Caribbean side
If you are going in August , be prepared for the high humidity, you have to pace yourself but its ok once you get used to it.
A few years since I was there, I stayed all inclusive out of the town right near the marina.
Taxi into town was less than £2.
Its only 10 minutes from the airport but never saw a plane the whole time.
Lots to do,..horse riding through the jungle, swim with dolphins, trip to the hidden beach.
There is also Neuvo Vallarta a few miles up the coast which is even cheaper but its quieter and a bit isolated.
Also Puerto is one of the safest places Ive ever felt, just dont be flash as the people arnt well off.
