Sorry I am a Luddite as far as IT is concerned so this will probably seem a silly question to some. I have bought a new tablet as the old one had developed some problems. I want to wipe the latter before disposing of it and think I know how to do it.I have nothing on there I want to keep that isn't on the laptop. I know that if I put stuff on the laptop it will immediately appear like magic on the tablet and vice versa and am just a bit worried that it might work the same way in reverse. Can somebody assure me it doesn't. Please don't tell me to back everything up because I have no idea what that means.
You could unscrew the plate on the underside & remove the hard drive & hoard it. It's ca. 5 inches * 3.5 inch size & easy to remove. A few small screws will hold it in place. A drill or a nail driven through it would make it unreadable.
Or use a free data destruction program https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-wipe-a-hard-drive-2624527

Yes I've done that detraveller. Seems fine. I'll see if the local charity shops are interested. Dronfield had a referendum back in the 60s as to whether they became part of Sheffield but chose not to. When I worked for Derbyshire CC I had interaction with Henry Fanshaw School and nearly all the kids' parents worked in Sheffield.

As new smartphones hit the market, people are looking to offload their outdated devices more frequently than ever before. When selling an old phone, the standard procedure is to restore the device to factory settings, wiping it clean of any personal data. This creates a new-phone feel for the new owner and offers protection for the original owner. However, a security firm has determined returning Android devices to factory settings doesn't actually wipe them clean.
Security firm Avast purchased twenty used Android phones on eBay. Through extraction methods, they were able to recover old emails, texts, and even photos. In their recovery, they found hundreds of nude selfies of one man, presumably the last owner[ your real reason s s ??. ]Even though they are a sophisticated security firm, Avast didn't have to work too hard to unlock this data. Avast used a digital forensics software, which they described to CNET as "fairly generic" and "publicly available."
So, in the event the future owner of your device happens to invest in this software, you should take extra measures to protect your data. Before you sell your device, here's a how to on really protecting your data by encrypting it before attempting the reset.

You could recover deleted data yourself from a computer 15(probably more) years ago. I am sure technology has advanced enough to enable recovery from android devices.
If you think you have something important on it, something you can't afford the world to see, then destroy the tablet. Otherwise just factory reset and give away.

I wiped it a few hours before disaster overtook the football forum. I honestly haven't got anything on there that would get me locked up/open to blackmail. That's all on the laptop
