It is possible people are overlooking something. AT the semi final stage! If eliminated before, bet is a loser. They have to beat Sweden and England/Colombia to reach the Semis Not for me but good luck to everyone who has a go.

The emphasis is VALUE Dr...generally a 6/1 poke in the village

We can discuss value all day and many often have. Value is a very personal thing so if YOU think its value, good luck.

If the so called best betting brains in the UK price this eventuality up as a general 6/1 shot and 20/1 is available then surely that must be construed as a value bet in anyone's language...with respect DR.

That seems obvious to me. What else could it mean? I suppose people might overlook the eventuality of them reaching the final or winning the tournament. |

I understand what you are saying and you are correct if you say, for example, a £20 radio is going for £6. That is value because you get something in return. However what you are doing in this case is buying THE CHANCE that Switzerland will be eliminated in the SF. Although I accept that I am in the minority, if I lay a horse at 30 and it loses, to me that is value. If it wins it was very poor value. To me value is if I back a horse at any price and it wins, or if I lay a horse at any price and it loses. I am probability I am in a minority of one, but if my P/L account shows a loss, whatever I did was very poor value! I hope this clarifies the way wot I see things. But you are entitled to your opinion and don't be swayed by me because I am new to gambling.

That is treating betting as a one-off event. |
By:
It is a one off event. Each bet is either won or lost, however long it takes to get the result. But all approaches are different and I respect your different approach. All I know is once I stopped messing around BetFair became an investment, not a gamble!

hows the phones busy or not regards Ronnie. |

Good luck to you, Slicer. If you are a long-term winning punter, that's all that matters.
By:
I guess one way to put would be:
If you had £10 to buy a ticket for a sweepstake for the World Cup (or any event) and £10 to place a bet, would your choice be the same for both? I would say an emphatic no! |
By:
I agree. But that is not the point I am making. Anyway, enjoy the games today.

Twizzle hows the phones busy or not The answer to that question is an emphatic NO 50% down since they foolishly introduced the minimum pony stake The end is nigh! |

Switzerland to qualify v Sweden (10/11 ish), then v England/Colombia (7/4ish) and lose to probs Spain/Croatia (1/2 shot).
By:
They go 6/1 Sweden for the same bet. the 20/1 is a clear palp.
By:
Don't know anything about BV odds but the Swiss have been 50+ on here for last few days to win the whole thing so 20/1 to go out in semi doesn't seem overly generous. Down to around 36 on here now. I'd think the Swedish odds of 6/1 were way out.

By:
You are correct, Dr Slicer, but I would add that THE CHANCE can be bought and sold just like the radio. The skill is in assessing when and at what price.
By:
A very good point! But that is trading and my parents wanted me to be a professional and not take up a trade!
By:
Very wise of them. I sometimes find myself selling the chance for less than I paid for it.
