Why couldn't they use a helicopter with a water scoop (from Thames) and drop many loads on top of the building.
Also they could have rescued people from top with a long rope.

I'd imagine the roof design is to direct anything dropped on it down pipes or out not INTO the cladding which would be an insane design.

What about a fire alarm, and having instructions to leave the building asap when it goes off?

It's usual practice to tell people to stay in their flats. That way the fire brigade know where people are. The idea being the flats were fire proof which they weren't.
I fear the fire brigade are gonna cop a lot of the criticism here. They had no apparent knowledge of the building which I find odd. Their advice to stay put was therefore very, very dangerous. |

IT's not like the fire burned for a day and they had lots of time to think.
I used to wonder about helicopters and roofs for 9/11. The fire there wasn't nearly so bad, after the first one went down they surely must've thought the second might but these things need planning. They'll have plans for scenarios and put them into effect, you don't have a pile of waterbombing or rescue helicopters (I mean how many have a winch man or a guy in the back with a rope ladder never mind waterbombs) sitting around in every city with trained pilots and an action plan for them. If anything NY would be far more likely for a quick attempt to save a few lives as they've heliports and so on nearby. There was even a helipad on each roof. |

Now I look I'm reminded, helicopters now are turbines (basically jets) with a shaft to the blades. If you want to remember what ash does to jet engines, think back to the volcano thing of 2010!

Listen to this: Whilst the fire was burning ferociously the fire brigade did not see the need to switch off the gas supply to the building until 24 hrs later; once this was done the fire intensity immediately reduced significantly, according to an expert who was there to assist that day, and who gave evidence at the Enquiry today.
How could that be possible from a supposedly professional and fire specialist? A tragic event made worse by an other shocking decision. |
