A question for our computer wizards.
After the latest Windows 10 update, Dell SupportAssist no longer loads completely.
1. Is it of any importance?
2. If so, any ideas how to fix it?

That's a very specific problem! I personally wouldn't be that bothered, don't even know what it does it's the sort of preloaded crap that they can give to be helpful.
Strangely though I've used multiple dells for work reasons I can't remember seeing it so I'm guessing it's for consumers.
I've similar stuff on an HP and tbh it's more irritating than anything else.

If you really care dell support is where to check it out and maybe see if there is a new version to download, their support is normally pretty good.

i lost a lap top a few weeks back, its now got a blue screen and all the windows are gone,i tried everything to get it going again ,but no good,
i know nothing about computers and the one i am on now is as old as myself, but i am scared to touch any buttons in case i feck this one up.its an age thing with me and cant work the modern stuff,i am lucky to be able to know how to switch on.i guess i never changed with the times, and i guess i never will.
i get messages to upgrade to windows 10 but i have an attitude of "if its not broke dont fix it"
i would hate to upgrade and security would stop me getting into betfair.
a friend of mine changed his PC for a modern( i pod or i pad) and can not get into betfair since changing.

i was just thing to myself, when i first started to bet on betfair, there was no broadband and we had to punch our bets in and wait for 2 minutes for an answer to come back telling if the bet was matched, and if it failed to match you had to repeat the request to get matched ,many times a race would go off on tv and you would wonder if your bet was matched or not.Grinbut most times the bets were matched win or lose.
ah"those were the good old days"

Never, ever, known anybody - and I mean ANYBODY and EVERYBODY - have as many, "ISSUES," with the INTERNET, and, "PROBLEMS," with COMPUTERS - as you CONTINUALLY do - brassneck

How do you manage to get out of bed in the morning and not then fall over and bang your head?...

- although, I have a strong suspicion, that will probably have happened many years ago.

onlooker,i am not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to computers,i just dont understand them ,i am not a young lad like yourself,i am an old man with bad eye sight, that has to type with one finger, sixty years ago i had to walk to school with a pencil and a jotter and write down everything i learned, that was the way of the world then, technology has passed me by,but i still got a degree in maths that has served me well,so i did not do too bad for myself and am a member of mensa because of the maths ,but as i say i just do not understand computers,in fact i was tested one time and the computer nearly beat my brain in a maths test but i just beat it in a photo finishGrin
but computers are just not for me.
by the way everyone was amazed that i could count quicker than the computer.Cool

Hey Alan Turin was a wonder at computers and he must've been born about 1910. Maybe to get some computer skills you need .... to like musicals :)

bn there are basically two aspects to a computer failure : do you need the data on it and do you need it to work.
If you don't need any data on it, well you've many options. Geeks would know how. But depends on the version.
Like at boot start pressing whatever button and trying safe mode and restore, and so on.
If it's TOTALLY not able to boot but the drive works, then a geek can take your old data off, if it's important.

Your description is a bit vague but it sounds less like advertising and more like your PC or your browser has been infected. If you have any anti-virus software, run a scan. If you do not, there are free scanners online but be careful only to use reputable ones, like Microsoft's:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/products/scanner

If it only happens with one browser -- test with Firefox, IE and Chrome -- then it is probably a rogue extension.

Thanks everyone and especially Just Checking. I'm going to uninstall the Dell program as it keeps trying to load then hangs which is a bit of unwanted annoyance. Otherwise the computer is working fine.

Brassy, falling off that mountain yesterday might have had something to do with it although I'm pleased to say it hasn't affected your sense of humour.
