Until I got home today late this afternoon I didn't even know England were playing tonight let alone who the opposition were.

12 white, 11 non.  The fact it's as close to a 50/50 split with the number 23 is purely coincidental Mischief.

You have to feel for the French though.  Just 6 players out of 23 have grandparents who enjoyed Liberation Day in 1945.

I thought they played well and Southgate is doing well as manager.
Much thanks to that fat greedy bar steward for getting himself caught out after 1 match.

Southgate is doing reasonably well.

He was a member of theam in that lost to Brazil in the WC QF 2002.  Do you recall what he said about Sven's half-time team talk?

"We needed Winston Churchill but we got Iain Duncan Smith."

Tbh, Gareth doesn't come across as Churchill.

He doesn`t strike me as a leader. If you were in the trenches, would you follow him over the top? I don`t think so. All the great managers had true leadership qualities, Clough, Shankly, Stein, Busby, Fergie, etc

If the snobs at the FA had hired Clough, England would have won the World Cup again.

Its gotten to the point of backing another team and supporting them, even backing against England getting out the group and hoping they dont

That wasn't the case in the 2002 World Cup, where the whole school was depressed after we crashed out to Brazil, or the 98 World Cup either. No school kid on our street is bothered about the World Cup either, they only want to watch the "big teams" players. That was unheard of when I was a kid.

Definately a Fresh look about the Team  Rashers Hendo and Cheeky  Stood out for me Grin

Better than watching the Likes of Terry and Rooney plodding around the Field Plain

The last couple of Comps have been disgraceful from an England point of View Plain

We cant do any worse .. Loftus-Cheek looks older than his 22 years. Big Midfielder he could be a revelation ..

Comes from down the road from you Slippy ,Lewisham .

I think we could surprise Rashford and Kane Decent strikers .. Happy

To someone who remembers the 1966 world cup this "finks ain't what they used to be" of such recent world cups is hilarious.

The French must feel the same. Not one of their players sports a beret and a garland of onions.

Some men develop depression, loss of sex drive, erectile dysfunction and other physical and emotional symptoms when they reach their late 40s to early 50s.

Other symptoms common in men this age are:

mood swings and irritability
loss of muscle mass and reduced ability to exercise
fat redistribution, such as developing a large belly or "man boobs" (gynaecomastia)
a general lack of enthusiasm or energy
difficulty sleeping (insomnia) or increased tiredness
poor concentration and short-term memory

But it's quite a young team this one DIE LINKE. They should be fairly enthusiastic and energetic, especially at first world cup for many of them - and there's always the bench if they get tired.

Just trying to help some of our older forumites. Many seem to have at least three of those symptoms, one assumes three or four of the others also apply.

Kenny mann, my post on the 'HUMAN RACE STINKS' got removed, all I said was agreeing what everyone else was thinking/saying about those evil people who slaughtered the lion and the giraffe. So someone on here has reported my post and got it removed, that's very odd to me mate.

But the 98 and 02 world cups hold something special because I was young, Michael Owens goal V Argentina will never be beat for me, it was sublime, and I'm sure older forumites will have their "world cup", whether its 90 or 98 doesn't matter.

Kids today though don't really care about England, they'd rather play on their PS4s tbh. The World Cup has lost a lot of magic, less kids interested imo.

How can players on 250k a week be motivated? Ingerland WILL NEVER AGAIN WIN A MAJOR TOURNAMENT unless more Ingerlish players play club football at the highest level. Club supporters want the best for their team and that means foreign players. That will never change while the financial status quo is maintained. I remember the days when Ingerland had a chance of getting to the semis or even winning. Now, getting past the potential quarter final against Brazil or Germany will be like winning the World Cup. More chance of winning the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest!!!! How anyone can talk up the performances against Nigeria and Costa Rica is beyond me. I know they were only pointless friendlies, but nevertheless...……

2002 was our last real chance as well, Brazil down to 10 men for most of the 2nd half and we did very little though, but it was Turkey in the semis and a weak Germany in the final. that team was actually good as well unlike the past decade.

1998 we had a sol campbell goal ruled out late on?? despite being down to 10 men we looked the most likely to score against a poor Argentina side imo

I was called a racist on the Derby thread, probably because the guy hadn't a clue and that was his last weapon.

we actually struggled to beat nigeria and costa rica in warm up games

neither team was trying. we were fortunate really in both games. the fact we were at home helped

i truly think the problem is with the older generation now, we were let down so many times we've got no passion left.

quite a lot of england fans want england to lose now so they can say "see we're sh*t" but they'd be crying if we actually won the world cup

what a F'd up nation we are

we didnt struggle to beat them, it was quite an easy watch for engerland backers

tunisia might be a different kettle of fish based on 45 mins v spain

players are overpaid, and you know they will leave for more cash, so less chance fans get tied
up in connection. but so much footy on tv fans have more connection to club football than back
in 60s 70s 80s where there was more engerland matches on tv than live league club games

It is the way we beat them that is cause for concern even though they were meaningless friendlies. I know about the cliché that you can only beat the team that is put out against you, but lets see how we do against Brazil or Germany in the quarters if we get that far! Ingerland World ranking is 12, Tunisia is 13. So, Tunisia is a different kettle of fish to Nigeria or Costa Rica, especially after the way they eld out against Spain!

Vardy switched on by competing with the boys for his place.

As for it not being the same any more;
So many years of seeing patriotic fervour flushed down the toilet takes it's toll. Sure I wish them well and seeing them win a few games is always nice but.... There's always a but isn't there. So any level of joy and/or enthusiasm can be a real effort but I do wish them well.
