A man has shot dead two female police officers and a civilian in the eastern Belgian city of Liège.

The gunman also took a female cleaner hostage at a school before being killed by police. Four other police officers were also injured.

The man's motive is not yet clear but the incident is being treated as terrorism.

Police sources quoted in local media said the man was heard shouting "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest" in Arabic).

Belgian broadcaster RTBF said the gunman was let out from prison on temporary release on Monday where he had been serving time on drug offences. It said that he may have been radicalised while in jail.

Another everyday example of a serious crime story, where one tries to find one ounce of common sense and/or good judgement by the authorities, and fails.

Granny - how goes it?

I must pop over to the Tennis Forum next week to see you and the other cognoscenti trading at Roland Garros.

Hope that the KFC is still fully stocked and that good business is being done by the Quayside.

regards as ever

I truly hope not. Can't bear him. I would prefer Roy Cropper to win over him.

seems invevitable. last 18 months mens tennis been an absolute farce with djokovic seemingly on permanent walkabout murray probably finished and the younger generation utterly hopeless leaving roger and rafa to continue to mop up way past a usual pension age in tennis
