So, 100 'travellers' break into a brewery using an angle grinder, park up and have a good weekend. They break in on Saturday and Police 'negotiate' with them to leave, which they promptly do............ on Monday afternoon. No arrests, on one charged. Evening All.

Too much paperwork with all those people. Also not worth the police's effort to arrest them. The courts would fine them a penny hapenny and send them on their way if they promise not to do it again until they do it again! However, drive at 31mph in a 30 zone-WATCH OUT!
Report Dr Crippen May 30, 2018 2:21 PM BST
The police are a complete washout and are now a waste of money as regards regular policing.

If they weren't there at all we could organise our own protection against criminals, yet while they are there we can't because they're more likely to take the side of the criminals if we try to defend ourselves.

I resent paying tax purely to fund their careers and gold plated retirements.
Report Dr Crippen May 30, 2018 2:25 PM BST
Makes one wonder why the travellers were so confident that the police wouldn't act against them.

These people are not short of money.
Report Slicer May 30, 2018 2:25 PM BST
Dr-we are allowed to defend ourselves with equal force. So- if attacked, pause the perp for a moment, ask what weapon he is carrying. Go to nearest shop to buy a weapon equal to that of perp, return to scene of crime and then fight the perp. Remember- you must not use disproportionate force. So if you don't know what weapon the perp is carrying, you are restricted to shouting BOOO!

A cop was asked how he sleeps at night (by a youtuber) and he replied "very well, I've got a lovely pension waiting for me"

The cop had called for back up and was quite respectful at first, once the back up arrived he got all high and mighty with arrest threats, and the bloke being harassed only wanted to go and watch the protest speeches.

People need to remember cops are not there to protect them, cops wont be seen dead going after true criminals, they will however arrest a young vulnerable woman if she dares to swear at them, but only when back up arrives.

People berating the police don't have a Scooby Doo. My brothers a constable, and will contribute more to society during one shift this week than most the people posting on this thread will do in the entire year, including myself. There are a hell of a lot of good cops out there, but like with a lot of things, have to do their job within the boundaries of idiotic bureaucracy. You think those cops in the OP's story didn't want to do differently? The amount of stories I hear from my brother where the rules he has to obey are absolute insanity.

But yeah, I hate that my younger brother puts himself on the line for a society that largely doesn't deserve his help
Report detraveller May 30, 2018 6:34 PM BST
With the amount of powers the police has, a good police officer should be the exception, not the norm. I am surprised with how good the police usually is, considering they can be as bad as they come and still get away with it.

When you see coppers wrestling an old woman to the ground for absolutely nothing its hard to feel sorry for em

Cops will be the first to probably walk away from the job though, its the military that people have to worry about, if it ever came to them being drafted in of course.

They mob up and bully. A disgrace to Sir Robert...

I've had some good and bad

The one where I was stopped for no reason whatsoever, 2 of them just decided they were going to play the power card and demand my name and address etc, right pair of obnoxious *****

But also had good experiences with them, some are fine and you can have a good chat with them. Its a pity they aren't all like that though, some really do get of on having authority over us, and they couldn't lead a conga.

That video from SontaranStratagem shows modern coppers up for what they are. Two turn up to arrest an old lady at her home with another filming and for what?

I fear for the people of this country with the shambles we've got for a police force.
We need a nationalistic government in this country that is prepared to get a grip.

The op''s link is quite astonishing. A gang can break in where they like, damage, steal and **** all over, and the plod ask them to leave, no arrests. Sad

They used to say the British copper was the best in the world.

Now we've gone from one extreme to another. Which is the result of weak liberal thinking governments.

The stop and search issue highlights the problem exactly, with coppers spending more time reporting what they've been doing instead of simply doing it.

You can't run a police force like that, and now everything they seem to do is recorded on film.
That's fine, police abusing their powers is the price we have to pay for an effective police force and should be a warning to others not to mess them about.

The warning should be - talk back to a copper quoting the law, and you're likely to get a smack round the back of the head with a staff.
That's the way to run a police force and protect the public from villains. The police have to be feared to be effective.

Maybe the whole point of what has been happening in Europe in the last 4-5 years is to ensure the public starts thinking like that? And agrees to more of a dictator rule?
I said at the time of the refugee crisis that one day, the European public will be happy to carry arms to protect themselves against the very people that are being let in. We haven't reached that stage yet, but this is definitely one step towards that.
Report detraveller May 31, 2018 11:57 AM BST
Its not that I have any strong opinion for or against the police force. I only find it amusing that when the politicians create a mess, people happily give them more power to solve that mess.
Report Dr Crippen May 31, 2018 12:19 PM BST
They don't need more powers to solve the mess.

They need the restrictions that have been imposed upon them removed so that they can police properly.
Report Dr Crippen May 31, 2018 12:32 PM BST

People don't happily do anything in my experience. They have no choice in the matter.

People that say they've been harassed by the police too. I'm thirty seven, and not once in my life have I been harassed. Perhaps those people are putting themselves in a situation. Seems unlikely a cop would walk up to someone for the f*ck of it

My experiences with dealing with the police leaves me with nothing but complete and utter contempt and hatred for them. Twice I've been arrested, both times completely without foundation (common assault) and they did their very best to make my life uncomfortable. The second time I was held in Stevenage police station for 23 hours before being interviewed and charged.During that interview it was all I could do not to burst out laughing at the pair of them and their complete and utter stupidity, I said after the conclusion of the interview that this will be thrown out of court, you do both know that don't you? They pretty much nervously laughed and said that we will see.

At court, I confirmed my name and the judge, after perusing the statements said, and I quote verbatim, "What is Mr.Blue doing in my court?"
The C.P.S. then stood up said we withdraw Sir. The judge then said to me you are free to go and the appearance lasted all of 10 minutes. Both of the plods were there in court that morning and I tried to engage in eye contact with them but neither of them had the balls to look at me.Complete and utter *******.

Indeed jed, my thoughts exactly.
I played hockey for many years in Beckenham and there were two policemen who were in the same side as me. I would describe both of them as deranged, racist, uneducated bullies and that is me being polite. Thick as pig $hite the pair of them and they wondered why they were not liked.

As i said earlier on this thread, for the range of powers they possess, and how easily they can actually get away with it, they are way too nice.
