It's good in my opinion, I'm a very harsh critic about films and the likes but I'll give this a very solid 7.5/10 which is a big score in my book. Grant did a good job as Thorpe.

A couple of forumites on this thread have said they turned it off early, and it is also my friends' experience that you had to sit through the first few minutes before something clicked in your head and from then it was an enjoyable romp through a particularly absurd episode in recent history. So give it another go.

Trouble is that it's presented as being a dramatic farce and this undermines to some extent the seriousness of what went on.I would like to know if Scott was consulted about his version of events and his portayal. Unfortunately we know that Thorpe died a few years ago without a stain on his character.

Thorpe died a few years ago without a stain on his character.

What? Ok he didn't go to prison but his reputation was completely trashed.

Indeed but in the eyes of the law he was an innocent man
By:

If he was innocent how come the BBC are allowed to show him conspiring to murder? Wouldn't his family sue?

Leon Brittan died an innocent man, though they've had to stick him in an anonymous grave.

scott has been commenting in the papers

he liked his portrayal in the first episode but not that he seemed to be blamed for thorpes first wifes death.

maybe we can talk about the verdict next week, without spoiling it for those that dont know the outcome

???

Thorpe was around 50 at the time of the Scott scandal.
Grant is 57.

Playing the part brilliantly imo.

Jeremy Thorpe was 50 at the time of his trial in 1979, but his affair with Norman Scott was in 1961 and 1962 when Thorpe was 32.

Perhaps that what Go Ballistic meant?

Well yeah, Hugh Grant, good looking chap that he is, will never pass for 32 any more, or even 42.  According to wiki he's 11 years older than Scott but seems more like 30 years older

I gave this another chance today. I thought it was brilliant!

I'm dreading the next episode where the dog dies Sad

What happened to Mrs Tish? She seemed to disappear from the story Confused

Brilliant.. imo. Those who might be insecure about there own sexuality might want to give it a miss. (could send you into a state of confusion)

There was a scene set in 1962 where Scott looked like Jim Morrison with his long locks, in 1962? think not! Ok a tiny blip in my eyes but otherwise very enjoyable watch and I never thought I would ever say this but Hugh Grant is brilliant as Thorpe

I think it's an enjoyable drama and Hugh Grant a good actor, but this portrayal is nothing like the real Jeremy Thorpe.

If the story about the shooting incident was true, then Scott was incredibly lucky that the gun jammed after the dog was shot!

I agree with 'Facts' - Grant is superb at playing Thorpe and the programme is very well done imo.
