Visiting the Normandy D-Day beaches

Yes but it was it was 40 years ago. There is a museum at Arromanches which overlooks the remains of a Mulberry harbour. It was very impressive to think all that had been towed across the channel and assembled in days in wartime.

You should visit the American Cemetary and Memorial which is stunning. It sits at the top of the cliff overlooking one of the beaches. Also visit the Beny-Sur-Mer memorial if you have time and for balance the German war memorial at La Cambe which holds over 20,000 German soldier graves. Take a look on Google images and compare the contrast to both sides.

My mate owns a private plane and knew I wanted to go to the Normandy beaches, so on a really clear day we flew eastwards over the beaches. We were over the sea and looking back in land and could see this really bright sheen that the sun was bouncing off, and we couldn't work out what it was. When we turned round and flown over the land we realised that what we had seen was in fact all the white head stones of the American Cemetary. It is something that will stay with me for ever, along with seeing families having sun on the beaches.

It also really struck home when I found out there are 9,000 headstones in that Cemetary alone.
