My missus is from Woodhall Spa which is where the Memorial is located.  It's a few miles from RAF Coningsby.

About 10 years ago, on a quiet night in the local Chinese restaurant, who should stroll in but Prince William. Grin

They (Woodhall Spa) have a 1940s weekend each year in July. Well worth a visit if you're nearby.

That's a shame, 3300 of them made and apparently only 1 left intact.
If I'd been around at the end of the war with a bit of money I'd have been buying all these classic planes going to the scrapyard for a couple quid.
Be worth a fortune now. I'd never get anything done for sitting in them saying "ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-acka!"

What happened to the remake of the film , touted in the press a few years ago with Digger the Dog?

The original version is being rereleased in 400 cinemas around the country with no change to the dog's name.

Surprised to learn an operation of this kind could no longer take place due to Geneva Convention.

These foreign holiday hotels often put on an early show for the kids.
And a standard feature is the ''I am the Music Man' routine.

Where the kids dance to the music with a different little dance for each particular part of the song.

The part that amuses me is when they get to the Dambusters March.

Then all the kids Germans and Italians included, are going round in a circle with their arms outstretched like wings mimicking the bombers.

I wonder who they imagine they're bombing?

Short video showing the parallels between the bomb-run scene in The Dam Busters and Star Wars.

As a kid, we use to have a caravan at Reculver, where they tested the bouncing bomb. the old rusty bombs use to be under the steps leading down to the beach, there were about 3 or 4 of them. i think they took them all away to the imperial war museum and RAF Manston..
Hence my Username Happy

Original film is so damn good so why remake it all ? And the dog was called what it was - had nothing to do with racism. Absolutely pathetic to change the name !!!

Geneva convention was before ww2? Was there a new clause about not harming water based engineering works?

What's a bit scary and just shows the advance in technology is that the lancaster, which was actually known for having a huge load, (NO s****ing at the back there), one of the biggest of the period and far bigger than say a B17, that great big 4 engine plane ..

That dinky single crewed Eurofighter can carry approximately the SAME weight of bombs. Most people would never remotely guess that!

The next door neighbour worked at RAF Coningsby. If there was a plane leaving at the same time, it would drop him over his house.  Sometimes he'd misjudge his jump and land in her back garden.

He'd sometimes be left dangling from a tree for hours with his parachute tangled in the branches.
