It means to be satisfied with one's past success and to consider further effort unnecessary.
"now ,there are certain people who fall into this category and its a recipe for disaster, people who are still top of their league but fail to keep improving and end up getting challenged for the top position ,and then suddenly realise that they are overtaken and then they ask themselves"where did it all go wrong"?
i can think of a certain world largest organisation that are starting to fall into this category and day by day the vice is beginning to tighten on them. And they seem ambiguous to the situation;they give the impression that they do not care, but of course they are still top of their league,so i guess they know what they are doing'but it is a very very bad thing to rest on ones laurels because you never know the day or the hour that the lightning strikes.

"they seem ambiguous they seem ambiguous to the situation"

Interesting post brassneck...not sure about "ambiguous" though!

Are we to attempt to suggest who, or what, this organisation is?

The record (every pun intended} for the most cliché's crammed into a song/work has to go Joe South for Rose Garden, made famous by Lynn Anderson.

I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime
When you take you gotta give so live and let live and let go oh oh oh oh
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
I could promise you things like big diamond rings
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover
So you better think it over
Well, if sweet talking you could make it come true
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter
But what would it matter
So smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime
I beg…

And to think he wrote and recorded the brilliant 'Games people play' CryCryLaughLaughLaugh

For the pedants on here................

I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden

Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
But if that's what it takes to hold you I'd just as soon let you go
But there's one thing I want you to know
You'd better look before you leap still waters run deep
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out
And you know what I'm talking about
So smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime
I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometime

thats the word lady=oblivious, yes, oblivious, oblivious, the perfect word.
as in" oblivious to the fact"and its a very very dangerous game to play sort of like saying "falling asleep at the wheel of your car while you are driving"
and we know what might happen if one was to fall asleep while driving along.

There was a comedian who used to use the wrong word like that on purpose, I can't think of his name.

A bloke down the pub was telling us about his daughter who'd given birth recently.

He said ''she did have rough time giving birth. In the end she had to have a cesarewitch.''
