Mr Hunt said: "For them and others it is incredibly upsetting to know that
you did not receive an invitation for screening at the correct time and totally
devastating to hear you may have lost or be about to lose a loved one because
of administrative incompetence.

It was due to a failure of the it system ,and did not occur in Scotland because it has a different it system , so don't let the facts get in the way Donny , nhs cuts my arse.

there were huge problems and a lot of money wasted by the failed
computer system

however knowing that, the nhs should have been able to spot faults
sooner than 9 years later

But it was all commissioned under Blair.

......or claiming 27p expenses

that attention to detail would be handy to spot that

450,000 letters had not been sent out,

my dad gets 6 monthly blood tests for prostate testing, hes ok at the moment
and has been for a few years. last month he says its 7 months since my last test,
do you think they have put me on yearly screening?

i says phone the doc dad, he phones up, ...oh sorry mr osmond your appointment
has been overlooked can you come in next week....sorted for him

surley a missed test triggers a reminder, and a reminder is followed up into a system

of all those 450,000 ladies not called for screening , surely some of them queried the
lack of appointment? ....if so no alarm rang for 9 years?

IT defect put in place under a Labour government that's lain undetected for a years and blame it on the current government?
Maybe the next Health Minister should go dust off a cobol manual and go through the source code. If they can fit in reviewing old Belfast cancer cases.

surely somebody noticed that in 2010 there were no 70 year olds being screened
or in 2011 no 70 year olds on the stats , or 2012, 2013....,

it was found in the end, so clearly not undetectable ....

and found this january, its now may .....

NHS has always been quite good in my experience.

A few of the doctors do not have much of a clue and some of the consultants need suggestions to help them find the right treatment. They do not have time to work out every case. We all know our own bodies better than a doctor could.

It is up to every individual person to take responsibility for their own health and push for treatment.

yes it helps if we stay tuned in to our bodies and ensure we get check ups when planned
or required, ..dont be fobbed off

health service is great, but not perfect

meanwhile mps headed by nicky morgan rip into tsb over their i t problems

"450,000 women aged around 70 failed to get nhs invitations since 2009"

........and even though they were expecting to get a screening invitation they couldn't be bothered to contact their GP/surgery/hospital to query why they hadn't received one.

They'll be demanding compensation next

Lazy and stupid is not a good combination.

Have we been too reliant on what computers tell us?

Windrush is I guess more computer foul ups with noone able to think for themselves, challenge the computer and say hang on...

Phone an insurance company, get a quote. It's gone up. 'Why?'. 'Because that's the quote sir'.

People are paid to read a screen, not to think.

bloke who,s firm is getting the blame is trying to explain to the dumb nhs, hunt and the media that they,ve all got their figures wrong and the number is likely to be below 20,000 minus those who phoned up and got it sorted
goes along the lines of it wasn't 40,50,000 in years 2009,10,11 etc but maybe 40,000 spread out over the period of a 3 year rota, which might explain why the nhs didn't notice a great chunk not turning up or the billions of quid they must have been saving, of course if this is true and hunt and the nhs have refused to comment it makes hunts and the nhs statement and ensuing panic worse than the original mistske

They have probably done these women a favour!

I stopped going to screening many, many years ago after reading that very small cancers would probably not cause cancer in their lifetime but they were having unnecessary surgery and radiation that  could shorten their lives.
