Swedish DJ Tim Bergling aka Avicii has died aged just 28. He had 12 top 40 hits to his name including two no.1s. 28 is far too young to die. No cause of death has been announced yet.

How much do you have to drink to die at 28?  My great-great grandfather was an alcoholic and just happened to be a publican as well and he lived until he was 42.

He was a Victorian EastEnder though, not a Swedish millenial.

saw footage of him on news, do really that many people turn up to see someone play records ? could they just stay at home it would be a lot cheaper

To explain him to most... chit chatters, he was like a new George Formby, but with a mixing desk.

Oh .. a mixing desk is like two gramaphones connected to a tannoy.

so where does he come in the musical pecking order ( lyrically/musically )  compared to van morrison or bob dylan for example ?

MM, I was thinking the exact same thing, but thought I would refrain from taking the P... given the man's body isn't even cold yet Shocked

its not that, and hope haven't offended anyone, that wasn't the purpose,  its the prominence of djs in music scene. when i was young, didnt used to go and see ed stewart or paul burnett play records and jump up and down.
as a music lover concerned about avenue music is going down and what has become the norm. mark ronson is another one, how much talent ??? people go to ibiza because someone is good at playing records ??? beggars belief.

Times change. Kids of today appreciate different stuff than we did. I enjoyed Avicii's music, but attending a concert of his or similar acts isn't for me. There's also an enourmous difference between your average DJ, the one who's playing records at hip clubs every weekend, and someone like Avicii (or David Guetta or Calvin Harris) who produces and composes his own music. I'm not en expert on the EDM scene, but from what I understand Avicii was in the top echelon as far as being musically gifted goes, maybe even the very best, and had a feel for melodies no-one else in the genre has. Björn & Benny of ABBA wouldn't have wanted to work with him if that wasn't the case.

He was paid $250,000 a night. He was obsessed by rebelling against office work as demonstrated by Levels and I could be the one. Although an admirer of 60s music, I enjoyed his music along with some Calvin Harris and D Guetta. RIP an obviously tortured soul who had to resort to drink.

Was not aware of the fella, (diff. generation) but if he liked music that much he can't have been all bad.

Wake Me Up is/was an absolute classic song. Saddened by this, astonished he was worth 85 million $ though Shocked
