I've got the DVDs on the shelf behind me but imo Schama's occasional cheerleading is an irritant in a great series telling an inspiring yet sometimes depressing tale. The Jewish story, and contributions by Jews to all our history and the modern world are fantastic enough, including fish and chips (though that fact may have come from Jamie Oliver not Simon Schama).

I was a bit disappointed with it, particularly when he spent so much of his limited time focusing on one or two individuals, such as Mendlessohn. The BBC4 series on `Putin and the West` has been fascinating, a highly informative peek behind the curtains.
For a more enlightening insight into the Israeli/Jewish spirit, here`s an account of their raid on Entebbe; www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYU4iOWJ9pU And The Six Day War; www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxEXGA0RU5c Gotta just love Israel and the Jews! |

That `disappointed`^^^ refers to `The Story of The Jews`, not `Seven Minutes`
