I don't understand why we have commissioned two aircraft carriers. One we don't have a big enough battle group to protect them both. A carrier is ideal for conventional actions like the one carried out at the weekend, however if we entered into a conventional war with Russia I suspect both would be sunk within the week. Said it before and I'll say again. Two types of ships, submarines and targets

Aren't they intending not to use both at once but to always have one available, same as they rotate the trident subs?
These new hyperspeed missiles are going to make any sort of ship vulernable no matter how well protected. I do fear these arms races are going to force people into being more jumpy and possibly lead to firing first when there are misunderstandings.. |

It would be nice if Britain would retreat back to its home base, keep its nuclear deterrent and determine not to get involved in any foreign war anywhere else in the world ever again, leave them to it

Last year down Portsmouth went on a ferry trip around HMS Queen Elizabeth, being right up close to this enormous aircraft carrier in a small boat was pretty amazing. Couple of pics -
