REVIEW
by Gary Rose
Channel 5 loves shows about bully bailiffs and loony landlords, but tonight there’s an eviction of a different kind, as owl couple Geronimo and Flo are ousted from their nest… by a squirrel. Who’d have thought they’d lose that battle? Elsewhere, there’s an insight into owl physiology, as we see how they perform their celebrated 270-degree head-rotation trick, and learn why their hearing is ten times as sensitive as a human’s.

Robert Lindsay’s narration gives the birds such human characteristics that you half expect him to start doing their voices, Johnny Morris-style. But this gently informative “reality show” looks great and is a welcome change of pace for Saturday night.
SUMMARY
The second of two programmes in which cameras follow the lives of owls living in rural Essex on a former First World War airfield. Missing Claw and Stripetail now have three chicks, who must learn how to fly, hunt and pounce. Meanwhile, five tawny owl chicks arrive from a local wildlife centre.
