Cannot disagree with this. Think it's why I'm still watching repeats of Columbo (albeit commercial tv does it's best to ruin your enjoyment of any programme )

Worst thing in the world - NAP. Even if you have 2/3 programmes lined up to channel hop if ads come on, the breaks are all aligned other than maybe a minute or two's lag. So you switch over when ads come on and settle on another programme only for the ads to come on 30 seconds later.

I pretty much only watch the news, sport, documentaries and films. I can't be doing with most of the other stuff although I do watch Masterchef as I do enjoy cooking.

Don't complain about our TV until you've been to the US and had to sit through the sh1t and advert-fest that is their TV.
I hate these shows they bring over here from the US on the more obscure channels that are edited to have an advert every 5 ****ing minutes or something and keep reviewing what they've just said and about to do, but we didn't have the advert. It would be annoying WITH the advert but even more so without .. some shows it seems 1/3 of them are reviewing what they've just done or telling you what they're about to do after the advert (that we don't have).

I have to agree. Our telly is on all the time, but we're barely watching.
Having said that, I've just watched the end of Celebrity Chase. It's amazing how 'thick' the chasers become on a celebrity edition!

TV died years ago. Has anyone tried Monkey Tennis yet? (cough)
I think the real divergence occurred around the time they decided to simply increase coverage with '+ 1' channels rather than actually making anything of value. Business models are built around churning out c rap and tricking the user into believing it has worth. Its across the board and doesn't just happen in TV.
The effect of Ray kurzweil's 'singularity' is to have an ever decreasing life cycle of product (as a bi-product of an ever increasing production of 'things') This means markets are flooded with rubbish that nobody needs or wants. Simply adding more channels is a strategy to bamboozle the consumer into thinking the ever increasing price is justified due to the mass of content.
Turn the tv off and stop paying for it.

Amazon Prime disrupted the behemoth of old TV when they coupled the subscription model on the fast delivery of items with 'TV/Film' content. It turned out a master-stroke and will finish the archaic approach to TV subscription. They are the growing market and are producing stuff thats very popular I understand, I have it for the delivery but do find there is good film content when I need it.
What did SKY do? Brought out another box that lets you record (I believe) 6 channels of rubbish at the same time.

Mainstream tv utter garbage yes, but Breaking Bad, Stranger Things, Mindhunter, Better Call Saul, Ozark and more better than any of the Hollywood films around.
The BBC license fee should be scrapped, rubbish all the time.

Talking of running out of ideas, flicking through the channels last night and found the Generation Game hosted by Mel and Sue.
Quickly switched that off and read a book.

How bad was that? Lowest common denominator TV - at the same time, some awful chav TV reality crap about people who can't sing, in front of a baying mob of some diverted Jeremy Kyle audience busses.
It's the new way of keeping the masses supressed and out of the loop.
