Patrick never caught the collective Chit Chat imagination in the manner of a Jonathan Stape.

Then again, Mr Stape was very closely connected with Chit Chat Sweetheart, Miss Rosemary Webster.

I believe there used to be a photograph on here in the past of Mr Stape in the process of teaching a rapt Miss Webster.

alun2005 is correct, Patrick made the mistake of kidnapping Andy, which was of no interest to chit chatters. Unlike Stape who incarcerated chit chat's favourite teenage minx, the aforementioned Rosie Webster.

Rosie used to be very hot in the Stape era. Now she's not.

Patrick will surely be back when the ratings require a boost. The body surely won't be found ???

Great to see that photo again btw. I think that was the scene when Rosemary was asking Mr Stape to explain a few of the more complex passages in Plato's Republic.

I'm sensing some public scepticism of how Patrick survived not only the deep and icy waters of the Irish Sea, but also then crossed an international border to Ireland, despite his own boat and bag of money now being in police hands.

Personally I'd imagine this feat would be an absolute doddle for a man of Patrick's many and varied skills.

He could, for example, have 'ship hiked' his way to safety, a la Laurel and Hardy in 'Sons of the Desert". Alternatively (and this is my own deduction), I would guess he simply hitched a ride on a passing dolphin, riding him like a aquatic cowboy, possibly remembering back to how 'Marine Boy' did it in the 1960s cartoons. Charming creatures dolphins, always ready to lend a hand to a sailor in distress.

It's possible he even stopped off at a pre-arranged point on the Isle of Man, or indeed Belfast, to collect extra funds/clothes etc before completing the onward journey to Mrs Doyle's welcoming guesthouse.

passing dolphin pmsl

whatever, it's good to see him back, one of the more interesting character, and an exceptional villain.

How many characters is that now that have been locked up for a crime they did not commit?

The police as portrayed in this programme make the Keystone Cops seem on a par with Columbo. The real rozzers should put in a serious complaint, and request that the government implement some sort of law to guarantee that all tv dramas demonstrate peoples of the police variety to be in possession of at least one brain cell (each).
