Qualified cupping therapist Muhammad Abid has been living in a flat given to him by Newham Council, while his wife took the keys to another taxpayer funded pad in Canning Town.

He said: “She wanted to maintain her independence from myself and, number two, because of her health conditions.”

The 27-year-old has now been jailed for four years and three months at the Old Bailey for failing to report his gang’s plots.

The gang told children to drive cars “like Mujahideen”, encouraging them to go armed to Big Ben, Heathrow airport and Westfield shopping centre to carry out attacks.

Mr Abid’s co-defendant, Umar Haque, led the gang that took inspiration from the Westminster terror attack last year where a policeman was stabbed.

Mr Haque worked at two Muslim secondary schools and is thought to have tried to radicalise 110 students.

Tory MP Priti Patel has led criticism of the system abuse engaged in by Mr Abid - and wants an inquiry commissioned to investigate the case.

The ex-International Development Secretary said: “The abuse of the housing register and benefits system is scandalous and questions must be answered as to how he cheated it.

“At a time when there is a shortage of housing, Newham should have been more vigilant and carried out more checks.”

I knew a woman who has now died she was an alcoholic anyway they had a nice 4 bed house but were struggling with the mortgage she claimed she had left her husband and went to the council told them she had kids i think she had 3 at the time got a house more or less straight the way she then sub let it out and mortgage problem solved
