Just throwing that in because Gmad already mentioned my much beloved Linux.
In all seriousness: If you don't need any special software for your job that is only available for Windows, then Linux should get a real consideration. There are many easy to install distributions available. Most of those already have browsers, office suits and whatnot installed, and have great software repositories for everything else.
