I saw something a few years ago about this problem it's amazing how thick some people can be.

Some ethnic groups might be easily offended if the problem is highlighted.  Therefore, the problem isn't tackled and persists.

Fat down the sink is a problem nationwide, but it's a bigger problem (possinbly much bigger) within Asian communities in the UK because of the fat in Asian food.  It's a problem of awareness which is exacerbated because of lack of British education.  Making people aware aware will cause offence, and you will be labelled a racist for ethnic stereotyping, so the issue is not tackled properly.  Everyone who can do something is scared shitless of doing what is needed, they end up frustrated, demotivated and doing a piss poor job.
