I have some clip on polarized lenses over my prescription specs.
Would strongly recommend them, or regular polarized glasses, for normally sighted people! |

I always look to one side when another vehicle approaches.
It's amazing how super safety the authorities are with regard to the trivial stuff like windscreen wipers and flaws on the windscreen, yet they've allowed this massive danger to safety to go unchecked. This makes them look like a bunch of overpaid dopes. I can't see any need for such brightness. All it does is to allow drivers to see better on unlit roads and as a consequence for many road users to simply drive faster. Meet someone coming round a bend on an unlit road and the danger of driving off the road due to being blinded is very real. |

It's bad enough when you are in a familiar area, but somewhere you don't know is terrifying!
You don't know which lane to be in, and are blinded by oncoming traffic but, at the same time, from behind into your mirrors! You would think that the police would provide some support seeing that they must encounter problems every day! Having said that, what can anyone do about it now? |

Another issue with these bright headlights is it is often hard to see front indicator lights flashing. Most (if not all ) modern cars have the indicator light built into the headlight cluster and it is completely overpowered by the headlight until the oncoming vehicle is quite close.

My immediate reaction on seeing such a car coming toward me, is to flash my headlights, as I do to any cretin driving with full beam/ too bright headlights.

Having said that, what can anyone do about it now?
Make them illegal in the UK Yes, obviously, but fine perhaps with new vehicles, if manufacturers could be instructed to comply and, or if dealerships would otherwise be ordered to change the lamps before delivery! How they could enforce it on motorists, individually, who bought their vehicles thus equipped, would be more than impossible! |

Just another thought on this.....
If it is well publicised, and accepted as a problem, what would be the stance on insurers, when presented with an excuse of a claimant having been blinded by another vehicle when, in fact, this was not the case? The situation would be more open to abuse than dodgy 'whip-lash' claims! |

Slightly off topic but some of these LED cycle lights are getting rather too bright as well. Got a work colleague who was bitterly complaining about car drivers flashing their lights at him (having showed me it, f**k me it is rather too much IMHO).

I recall when they were first made available, they were illegal for quite some time!
Reason being "they are not a bulb"! One way or another "There'll always be an England"! |
