Just had a ridiculous 30 minutes trying to pay my Barclaycard bill, from my statement today.
Balance is £0.84 and minimum payment is £0.84.

Three choices....
Pay statement balance
Pay minimum amount
Pay other amount

Clicked on pay statement balance and it tells me I've entered an incorrect amount...
Clicked on pay minimum amount and it says entered an incorrect amount
Tried to pay £5.84 and it says "Your account cannot be in credit"!

Kept trying and I got "You have to pay more than the minimum amount"!!!!

So had to phone, and I couldn't understand a single word...
In the end I asked if I could speak to someone else an not sure if it was the same person as I couldn't understand a single word,
so finally I was put through to the uk call centre!

Thank God it was resolved, though I didn't get an explanation as to why the problem!

If you clear your balance monthly you could set up direct debit for balance amount.

actually they will probably charge a penalty for not paying, mark the credit rating file and generally set in motion a series of events leading to bankruptcy and homelessness.

If you clear your balance monthly you could set up direct debit for balance amount.

Ah the joy of Indian call centres. Did the say "before we hang up, we are from Microsoft and you have a virus on your computer"? Laugh
Did you enter it as .84 or 0.84?

Why didn't you just pay it online, it's far easier, surely you have an online bank account and once set up it's easy?

(and once in debt any future things he does with card THIS month are interest-ed even if he pays that off next month).

They used to be more flexible and friendly.

JC....I pay everything on line....

I didn't manually enter it, but I clicked on their options of £0.84.
I only manually entered when I tried to pay more, and they wouldn't accept it!

I called only because of the reasons given in my OP, to see what to do about it, and detest calling as I always get cross!

I wish I never bothered, as I could have just made a purchase, and then I could have cleared it later in one go!

JC.....just to clarify

These were the options as presented, and with a tick box to select

Three choices....

Pay statement balance £0.84
Pay minimum amount £0.84
Pay other amount £.....

I tried every one of them, and it's just ridiculous that they wouldn't accept a higher amount,
but then said "You have to pay more than the minimum amount"!

I've payed off more than the maximum amount on a credit card before. I mean they don't like it but have to support it.

E.g. say you buy something, pay it off, then get a refund for some reason, + balance.

Well if you pay online pay this online :) Now I think back how many hours I went to banks and post offices or writing cheques and posting them to pay bills!
