Yeah, feel really crap. Had to go in the spare room last night so missus could get some sleep, but I never got a minute's rest. Off work today, too dizzy to climb the ladders.

Wife thinks it is sinusitis.

The headaches, swelling and toothache are indicative of sinusitis, if your nose is dripping as well then pound to a penny that you have got sinusitis. A course of amoxicillin is what you need and it will be gone in 5-7 days. I'm no doctor but have suffered from very acute sinusitis when I was younger and you have the symptoms.

It does sound like Sinusitis, as a rule viruses move about as they progress, like a cold, head then chest then fever. Bacterial is usually fixed to one place (eg, tooth abcess).
Mostly all you can do is treat the symptoms and see how long it lasts. Steam can be good for sinusitis, also drink plenty of fluids (helps keep mucus thinned).

I meant to say, if bacterial, you'll need antibiotics, if viral, time is the best cure.

Damn, can do without a week off work! The shivers have just started to add to my misery.

The only time I had profuse swelling of the face it was caused by an allergy but didn't get the other symptoms you speak of. Not overruling what others have said though, just adding my experiences to the fold.

Seriously mate it doesn't sound good get it checked out, better safe than sorry. I sat in bed for an hour once deciding if I was ill or not. Nearly died

God, I've got the room up to 25 degrees but I'm still really shivering. Can't go to bed, it makes me feel worse to lie down.

I certainly used a life that day, the next time it happened I was shouting at the missus "Help me" luckily second time around I threw up getting rid of a lot of the fluid in my lungs which was handy as my 2nd hospital trip wasn't as good as the first, eleven hours in A&E and resus before getting put in the Acute medical ward............same bed by the window

Seriously Torq the pain in your mouth and swollen face I'd get it checked out. Get yourself down A&E before the drunks start rolling in !

Yeah, I know that would be the sensible option, but I really don't feel up to a long wait in A and E. I figure if I'm just about well enough to chat with you on here I'll get over it eventually.

Sounds terrifying hope all is well now,I've turned into a bit of a health freak this last year don't drink nowadays and excercise when I can got to feel for those living with bad health have a few in my family life's too short

A&E is a pain though, my youngest son broke his arm when he was eight (not that we knew at the time) about one in the morning he said lets go home Dad, the hospital didn't give any priority to a child especially that time of night. Full of adults who seemed to be using the place as a social gathering and I'd wager most of them would make it through the night !

Nobody has mentioned this yet but my advice (and please listen to it) is to dial 111. They will know what you should do within minutes.

Good point Aspro but not heard to much good about them probably say go to A&E

trust me ufcdan... I've used them several times; the last time they had a doctor come out to me within 2 hours, rushed to A&E and spent a week in hospital (Jan 17)

Before that I couldn't get an appointment with the doctor for a week. After phoning them I got one that same evening. I kid you not

Many years ago I asked for a night duty doctor to come out to my wife only to be told by him it would be easier if she could come to the surgery to see him. I told him no and that I wanted him to come out. His response was "Is she really that ill that she can't come out" I said to him "She's got terminal cancer how fxxking ill do you want her to be" ? He was round within ten minutes looking very sheepish

I was in a right state later on Friday night after I started this thread. I went to bed in the spare room, started tossing and turning, and then the fever came. I didn't where I was or what I was doing for a few hours, pretty much delirious the whole time. The missus said she was really worried (not worried enough to call an ambulance though ). Anyway, at about six in the morning the fever broke and I fell asleep, feeling loads better when I woke up. The swelling has gone down. Reckon I'll be back at work tomorrow. God knows what was wrong with me, hope it doesn't come back any time soon!

Don't rush back to work, Torq. The virus which caused your fever will have left your immune system depleted. You could be vulnerable to opportunistic infection especially if you don't keep warm. Give work a miss for a few days, you don't want to catch pneumonia.
