" I flew into LGA from Houston and witnessed a United flight attendant instruct a passenger to put her dog in the overhead bin. It was clearly a dog and while the customer was adamant about leaving it under the seat, the attendant pushed her to do so.
At the end of the flight the woman found her 10 month old dog deceased. she sat holding the dog crying and all the passengers were utterly stunned"

USA TODAY asked big U.S. airlines for their policies, and all allow pets to be brought into the cabin by passengers for a fee. Some allow only cats and dogs; others also allow birds and rabbits. Pets must be inside carriers, and the carriers must be put under the seat in front of the passenger bringing the pet aboard.8 Oct 2013

I certainly wouldn't have complied with the instruction to put the dog in the overhead bin.Obvious that high temperature and lack of air would kill the dog.

I would not have complied either on one of our carriers Facts. I think in the US you are in trouble if you say boo to anyone wearing a uniform, even if they are enforcing something which is not in the rule book. Arguing would possibly have got her restrained and arrested, she should have left the aircraft. Tragic for the lass tbf.

Facts
"I certainly wouldn't have complied with the instruction to put the dog in the overhead bin."

Exactly, a poor 10-month-old puppy put in a hot overhead locker for 3 hours without any kind of airflow and no water. A very stupid flight attendant and also very stupid for the owner to agree. No excuse for it, very cruel. And why didn't anybody check the dog for those 3 hours, the poor animal was being treated like a piece of luggage !

The world is full of idiots shocking storySad
Report lovegod March 14, 2018 2:26 PM GMT
Maybe the attendant was told it was a beagle and misheard and thought it was baggage

Bad enough the attendants instructions and the owner complying but that's the part that gets me.
Report SlippyBlue March 14, 2018 8:56 PM GMT
It simply defies logic that the cabin staff insisted that the poor dog be stowed in the overhead locker and even more stupefying is that the owner agreed to it as well. If that were my Muttley I'd be off the flight pronto and on a train to wherever it was I was going.
Report Just Checking March 14, 2018 10:13 PM GMT
I've seen photos of the bag, it's like a bl00dy jim bag, I'd imagined a crate? They should be sued and the attendant fired.

I mean maybe for a few short minutes at takeoff and landing you MIGHT think it's acceptable but the entire flight in a closed compartment?

I'm fairly sure those comparments are pretty much airtight as they click solidly shut.
Report northanlite March 15, 2018 12:01 AM GMT
is this story true? i can't see a scenario where a dog goes in an overhead locker. it just sounds insane
Report akabula March 15, 2018 12:15 AM GMT
I've read another article where it states the attendant didn't know there was a dog in the bag.
Report Just Checking March 15, 2018 12:29 AM GMT
I read that but other witnesses said the woman had an argument with her saying the dog WAS in the bag, which makes you think the attendant is now covering her back.
Report northanlite March 15, 2018 12:35 AM GMT
what??? the dog was in a bag in an overhead locker? This gets more insane.
Thing is nobody would put my dog in a bag or a locker, i would never allow it. Mind you i took my dog
from USA to UK & she went in a dog cage in the hold (sedated) and i just worried about her the whole journey.
i would never do that again. .
