This was a fantastic programme. Absolutely gutted Edd China has left, the new series is crap in comparison. Learnt so much from watching Edd, gave me confidence to tackle some quite tricky engine work myself.
Never saw much point in the show tbf, all it seemed to prove was you couldn't make a profit without disregarding all the labour costs involved. Watched the new bloke and the show is the same although he's slightly less wooden than China.

I enjoy the show but Cooperman is right, a recent overhaul of a Morgan took over 150 hrs, cost in a garage in excess of £7500, no profit left if labour costs included.

They're very upfront about admitting a profit couldn't be made if they included the mechanic's time - I think the show is great for the educational aspect and the joy of seeing desirable vintage cars being restored.
I don't agree at all about Ant Anstead being an improvement - IMI Edd China was superior in every department, knowledge and presenting skills.

I don't think they're very 'upfront' at all about the labour costs. At the end of every show, following the sale of said motor, Mike will say, we made £200, £500, or whatever profit. As for restoring vintage motors, I think they've only ever done one, the rest being post 60s.

thought he was poor in front of camera myself, always looked fake and scripted
fuzz from car sos is a much more likeable character but his oppo shaw is a complete @rse, maybe they should try fuzz and mike together?

I haven't seen the new version, without Edd, and assuming it must be on Sky!
To have the incredible knowledge that he has, and to be able to commentate as he does things, is an incredible skill!
When the little Cockney git has bought something in the USA, and had it shipped to the UK, he doesn't include his travel expenses either so they would be on a double loss!
However, what they don't factor in, is profits from the show, so that must negate for not including labour costs.
In the end, it's a TV show for entertainment but, what annoys me most, is the aforesaid Cockney runt!
He celebrates their achievement, and says they are in for a big profit, and he is going to ask for (by example) £18,500.00, but he usually asks for say, £17,000.00.
Then he always shows weakness by asking what they think and ends up giving it away!
In the real world you wouldn't do that but you would start higher than what you want.
Some of the cars are pretty rare and, if there are others, they could be anywhere in the UK!
So, is this punter going to check out the one in Ireland, and the one in Cornwall, when he's standing in front of one that is superb?
I would love to buy something from his dealership, with him being the salesman......

Hugely embarrassed to admit I watch all Wheeler Dealers. Even the repeats. There’s something compellingly rubbish about it as poor Edd toils for 200 man hours to turn a £400 profit. Excluding labour naturally. Then there’s his mate who only ever appears once a series to give him a hand taking an engine out, never to reappear until the next season. But worst of all, and I’m mortified by this, I found myself looking at a used SL at a Mercedes dealership last year and to my shame I said to the sales guy in true Mike Brewer fashion “it’s a lovely straight motor”. What a to$$er.

Wheeler Dealers was better with Edd China. Mythbusters was better with the original two guys, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman.
TV executives trying to cut costs, or changing a winning formula to justify their executive salaries? Now it is too much forced jollity from new presenters with no personalities. Either way, the shows are ruined, ruined, ruined.
