Hi guys
After having a discussion with John who has been running the comp for at least  10 years now we have decided to do the festival which I think most will agree is the best meeting of the year & then sadly call it a day.
There are several factors for this which I wont go into now so I hope all the regulars & a few old faces will throw their hat into the ring for one last chance at glory.
Though I feel when we come around to next March we may well have another one off comp, well that's the plan anyway.

Good luck & thanks for playing.

End of an era pumps, the placepot competition was always very well attended and would have many people taking part and it was part of the furniture for many years on here thanks to John and you running the show. I'll definitely take part next week mate, good luck to everyone that gets involved at Cheltenham.WinkI hope all the old faces turn up.

About 7 or 8 years ago when I was doing really well on the Supreme Placepot competition, I found myself being the subject of an HMRC investigation. The investigation dragged on for a year. The problem was, I was in a predominantly cash business at the time and HMRC wanted to know why undeclared cash was going into my bank account.
Well to cut a very long story short, I was called into the Tax office in Ipswich to be interviewed under caution to explain how I could make money backing horses, when in the eyes of HMRC it was impossible to do. My accountant who was present at the interview had told me that basically I was doomed, but I was adamant that I could talk my way out of this very sticky situation.
As part of my defence evidence, I proved that my pseudonym was TheCoat and I presented the tax man with the results of that years Supreme placepot results which showed me right up there in all the competitions. I explained to the Tax Man that the 60 or so people that entered this exclusive competition were the top horseracing betting experts in the country. This wasn't the only evidence I presented to them, but without a shadow of doubt it helped me to be found innocent of all charges.
For this, I would like to thank both John and Pumphol for all their efforts over the years. It's been great fun.

Brilliant TheCoat. Laugh

I could use the same defence if I ever get audited. At least it would explain where all my money has gone!!

Sad times. I've always enjoyed the PP comp, and it's been far and away my most joyable comp on here. I think that was mainly because it wasn't played too often so it kept you interested.

Thanks to Pumps and John for running them over the years, and hopefully you might chuck the odd one in now and then.

I haven't been on here for a while, but popped in wondering if this comp. was still going.

Very sorry that it is coming to an end, but many thanks to Pumps and he of the many names -had a lot of fun doing these over the years.

I will make every effort to have a go next week. Despite many decent finishes, my only win on this was the Cheltenham one.

I was walking on air for a week, despite not backing anything with real money.

My partner did eventually persuade me that including my win on my CV was not a good idea. Grin

Some nice stories guys Happy
Only other comp when it comes round to it would be Royal Ascot in June but will have to see how the land lies but as a yearly comp its sad to see it go, also numbers have dwindled badly in recent years, we had about 80 players about seven years back for the festival that dropped by half last year.

Was that so long ago, TheCoat???
Time flies don't it?

I believe I still hold the all-time record for points and stuff from the Cheltenham Placepot competition about 8 years ago.

John and I were both working there on-course that year!

Happy days... a shame it always has to end.

I wish you well to run it, pumphol.
I'll give you a ring in the week, sorry I haven't been in touch.
