Another purchase I'd like to make, is for some sort of wireless sound solution for various rooms. i.e. The music sits on a pc & can be played in numerous rooms in the house, without some sort of wiring nightmare.
Any ideas on this?

If you have internet connected TVs then windows media player can play through the TVs if you link them up. That's what I do.

At short ranges the simplest and cheapest is probably bluetooth speakers that you broadcast to from your PC (which if it
doesn't have bluetooth you can add a dongle for). But it's range can be a bit crap.  I've two blueooth speakrs
and also a bluetooth headphone receivr .. Wwhich is pretty cool, it works as a little rechargeable amp so any headphones
can be wireless. In fact if you already have an amp or two with an audio input and bluetooth penedtrates that might
be a cheap option?

As others say WIFI is the next option which normally has better range (actually some blueooth is better now, maybe check the
bluetooth version/spec of both sender and receiver) but I think that's got a myriad of protocols for it. Bit more
of a minefield.

Can you test via say phone + pc or a phone + laptop how far bluetooth reaches in your house?
