Trevor Baylis - RIP

Trevor Baylis, has died aged 80, the manager of his company has confirmed.
David Bunting said Mr Baylis from Twickenham, south-west London, died on Monday of natural causes after a long illness.
Mr Baylis invented the Baygen clockwork radio in 1991.
He was appointed CBE in 2015 after campaigning to make theft of intellectual property a white-collar crime.
He said chatting with the Queen at the ceremony was "like catching up with an old mate".
Mr Baylis had also worked as a film and TV stuntman and an aquatic showman.
He had been seriously debilitated, having suffered from Crohn's disease, Mr Bunting said.

Mr Baylis was previously awarded the OBE for his radio, which he designed after seeing a documentary about Aids in Africa that suggested educational radio programmes could help tackle the spread of the virus.
He had said he received almost none of the profits from the invention because people took advantage of patent laws to sell other versions of it.
In later life Mr Baylis advised other inventors on developing their ideas, and campaigned against theft of intellectual property.
Mr Bunting, who runs Trevor Baylis Brands, said Mr Baylis had no living relatives.

I have read about him often over the years and admired him.

sad news, i have one of his radios, great idea.

Saw him near Eel-Pie Island where he lived....used to go exploring the area with my kids ....there was a house on it with a 100 Barbie dolls decorating the garden

I was involved in a project with these radios/cassette players in Africa.

More people like him the better,went to a pub on Eel Pie Island  in the very early 60s,Beatniks and Mods smoking reefers and listening to the Blues very nice indeed.

Thanks, trilby, I ended up watching his other stuff as well.

Picked up one of the  Baygen  1996 uk models in second hand shop over w/end ,was not sure what it was tbh but i can vaguely remember them being advertised .It started playing sitting in the sun on the windowsill today ,weighs over six pounds ,can see all the workings through the transparent plastic ,solar and wind up . Were a fortune back in the day ,going to open it up and have a wee swatch ,Sad to see the passing of the inventor and although i know nothing of him other than wiki and you tube seems like he was a right good spud and the likes of we prob wont see too many in the future .
