Misses has just text me saying im invited to her god daughters christening on 6th may. I've just said no as its villas last game of the season
and potentially our biggest in years. Told need numbers now for food etc as if villa not involved for 2nd i could say yes nearer the time.
Am i wrong in doing this? Because if it does come down to last game and we have chance of being promoted i'll be on it big time.

Go the game.

Youll enjoy it far more and if you went the christening youd be bored shtlss and you wont get any credit for it.

Do something nice the weekend after by way of apology and everyones a winner

Cheers bud, totally agree. Doubt i'd be able to get a ticket as we'll take thousands if a chance of promotion
but i'd like to be somewhere to join in the fun. No bloke needs a random 1 year olds christening to attend ffs

If you've already said no to her (and given her the reason presumably?), where are you on a doghouse scale of 1 to 10? Confused

It all depends on the caste system in play, tbh. If the missus isn't actually related to the goddaughter (ergo you're not) then I agree with nailedon - no-one (other than possibly the missus) is going to give your no-show a second thought in all honesty, and 1.01 you'll be better served watching your team play for a chance of promo.

Are you in any way religious?

If not, is she?

Either way, it's a meaningless ridiculous ceremony, to which you don't have to subscribe!

Nobody will give a toss, as to whether you are there, or not!

Be firm, and assertive, and look out for my thread on this very subject, to be aired shortly.......Wink

An absolute no brainer, go to the match. Personally I probably wouldn't go even if my team weren't playing let alone what could be an absolutely crucial game for the Villa. I really hope Aston Villa go up as I have a good few mates that are Villa mad and if they do go up and Palace avoid the drop then I'll have quite a few visitors at mine for the game at Selhurst!

IF she's your misses and it's her goddaughter are you not her godfather as you are godparents? Or does it not work that way (trying to remember myself, I'm useless at this stuff)

No, you can have godparents that are no relation to the child but equally you can have godparents that are related but are not a couple.  Godparents are singular, if you see what I mean.  If your wife is a godparent to a child then it doesn't mean that you are too.

A very solid win away to Sunderland tonight for Villa, the play offs looks an absolute given but it's going to take a run of great results to be guaranteed promotion and slip ups from Cardiff. I hope you do it prepared83.

sorry bud but family is more important than your football team
either find a way to get the christening moved to the morning so you can go to the game as well
or miss the game and do the family function

Grown men prioritising watching other men paid thousands of quid a week kicking a ball about in shorts over family is fairly childish and a bit sad really unless the OP is early 20s. The villa players wont give a toss if u were there or not and dont know u from adam so whats it matter.. that said I had the football bug when I was younger but priorities change. Any middle aged man wearing a football shirt on a non match day just cries out of a brain still stuck in adolescence as "one of the lads".

What about any grown man going out of their way to upload a picture of a football stadium for their Betfair profile picture, is that ok?

P.s I have a picture of Larsson on mine but I'm not judging anyone else

Not sure wanting to support your team can be deemed childish?
We all have "our thing" we like to do/look forward to.
Pretty sure a racing fan would not be seen at a christening on cheltenham gold cup day etc.
If me wanting to do certain things deems me childish than so be it.
